"Wendy S. Delmater has a lot of balls to title her book Writing the Entertaining Story. What in the world makes her think that she knows the secret? ...Editing. That’s what Wendy brings to Writing the Entertaining Story. She has read and evaluated, compared and analyzed reams and reams of unpublished work in her efforts to pick winners from the slush pile. Her advice in this book is practical, immediately applicable, and comes from her hard-earned time in the editor’s seat." - from the foreword by James Van Pelt
Wendy S. Delmater is the author of Confessions of a Female Safety Engineer, Better Dating Through Engineering, Writing the Entertaining Story, and has been Editor at Abyss & Apex Magazine since 2006. She also edited The Best of Abyss & Apex, Volumes 1 through 3.
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
I am not a writer even though I have a lot of stories in my head. Maybe, someday, I’ll attempt to put them on paper, which is why this book interested me. It’s full of information for a beginning writer. Wendy points out the do’s and don’t’s for telling a good story based on her years of experience as an editor and writer.
The second half of the book is for once you have the story written. She explains agents, the different types of publication, editing, advertising, and more. There’s so much more involved in writing a book than just getting the story on paper!
This is a great resource for anyone who wants to embark into the world of being an author.
