Fascinating family!
Perfect case study of a closed system, of a "we-against-them" mentality with low to none boundaries within the family and massive, impenetrable walls to everybody intruding from outside. Very toxic mix, I'd say.
Totally, completely dysfunctional with this peculiar mix of unabashed, pathological narcissism, emotional abuse, sexual ambiguity, the pressures of public exposure, mandatory hero-worship and denial, denial, denial until their very last breath.
Utterly fascinating.
And quite heartbreaking, considering that a few of the kids did not have the stomach to effectively deal with and, in the end, survive this kind of covert emotional clusterfuck.
And the ones who did, which were the women of the family (except Golo), well, it is fascinating to read about how they managed (or not managed) to carve out their own lifes under his (and her) looming presence and found a way to ..... what would be the adequate word here ..... subsist, maybe?
