Born in South Wales, Lee Allen was an avid reader from a young age, already beginning to develop his fascination with mystery, intrigue, crime, horror and the supernatural. He soon turned to creating his own stories and hasn’t stopped writing since. He completed the manuscript for his first full-length novel while still in secondary school, which was later published as his debut crime thriller "Those Crimes of Passion" in 2012.

Heavily influenced by gothic fiction, he later released supernatural mystery "Alone" (2014); horror chiller "The Jack O’Lantern Men" (2015); short story collection "Whispers from the Dead of Night" (2020), a hybrid of horror and multiple sub-genres; and erotic horror crime thriller "Bitten" (2021).

His first children's book, "The Ghost Train", was published on Hallowe'en 2022, followed by the sequel, "The Ghost Tree", published on the Autumn Equinox 2023.

Lee continues to reside in Wales with his feline writing companion, immersing himself in imagination and research.

I couldn’t resist picking up this book as it has really catchy and mysterious cover. I read the blurb and it was too interesting. The book consists of seven stories. I haven’t read scary or horror stories that much before so I was too excited. The narration style of the author is amazing and catchy that holds your attention till the end. I was excited to know ends of all the stories because in horror genre, it’s tricky to write the endings. My favourite stories are “The wanderer and whispers from the dead of night.” I won’t discuss much blurb and story as it will reveal the content and it will steal the thunder of the reader. I guess my ratings are enough to judge this book. I liked the writing style and mystery part the most. Like author has started narration of the story with creepy surroundings and feelings, there there is a normal and low key description and then again the end punch. I liked this way of presenting stories. I liked the vocabulary and language used by the author. All the stories have certain mystery aspects. I liked the supernatural touch given by the author. The narration style of the author is amazing. It gives us feeling like watching a mysterious creepy movie. I would definitely love to see episodes based on the stories. I want to read more from the author. Overall good one. I really enjoyed reading this. Definitely recommended from my side.

Masterful literary horror!
Seven stories with excellent writing to recommend them. Allen has a great grasp on horror, but what I most enjoyed was the poetic language. I look forward to reading one of his full-length novels.

One time read

So, the theme of book is based on horror and mystery fiction. It has seven stories in it. Different from each other full of suspense and unputdownable. Some stories were stretched unnecessary but some were well-paced. Paranormal plot will give you goosebumps. Cover page justified the theme and I must say it is not faint hearted. However, Stories are complex so, it would be difficult for a beginner to understand it.

Whispers from the Dead of Night by Lee Allen is a collection of seven short stories. The stories are different from each other. They are mysterious, filled with suspense and supernatural activities.

I like reading supernatural stories and I was hooked to this book because the descriptions are really good and it keeps you on the edge. 'I Killed Dorian' was my favourite read. It was nicely written and felt like an episode from some show.

There was a few moments throughout the book that were predictable and felt flat but there were some amazing unpredictable moments too. Some of the stories felt a little dragged at points. I like books with good pace.

Like most short story books this book had it's own problems. It was a one time read for me but I would definitely recommend it to beginners.

The premise of this sounded awesome. A whole bunch of horror and supernatural stories in one place. It was quite a variety as well. Creepy forests, fog, monastary, all ideal settings for horror.
The writing is quite beautiful and descriptive, sometimes excessively so, this seems to be a common trait in horror writing, so is no reflection on the author.
The characters make this a brilliant read, you invest in them and could be sharing their journey, walking alongside them, feeling the fear radiating off them in waves, their sense of powerlessness.
Each story is unique, and holds no bars in the levels it will reach.
The writing drew me in, and i frequently had goosebumps. There were quite a few physical reactions.
I dont want to go into any details of the stories as I dont want to ruin them, what with them being novella length anyway.
Any fans of horror and the supernatural absolutely MUST check this book out.

This is it. This book is undoubtedly my favourite read of the season. A melange of 7 different stories revolving around crime and thriller, this one is the perfect read for a day in, when you’re curled up in your favourite blanket next to a big window, with a cup of hot coffee and the sound of rain outside. An absorbing, addictive thrill fest.

Review
What a read! It was a completely a new experience! Seven different stories – each touching a different topic. The author gives very tiny description in his synopsis. The real stories are so beautiful. Since there were seven tales, I will add how I felt about each of them:
1. A Deathly Shade of Pale: The tale builds up slowly, building our anticipation. But it was slightly draggy with a detailed description of every scene and emotion. However, the ending left me in a poignant mood.

2. Prisoner: This story had all the elements of mystery, lust, dark rituals, and gore. This story too builds up slowly but gains pace midway. The story is slightly elongated but fills with excitement and curiosity. The ending left me awestruck.

3. The Wanderer: This tale was purely in horror zone. I was totally surprised with the way author spun this tale. The story gives medieval touch and the ending leaves desiring for more.

4. I Killed Dorian: This story had right balance of criminal investigation and chills. There were moments where it felt I was a reading a separate novel, not as part of a collection stories. The suspense is maintained for much of the story.

5. Bluebell: Once again traveling through horror zone, this tale blew my mind away. A touch of romance, a blast into the past and a mystifying ending – this story was splendid!

6. ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas: A chilling story set behind snowy Christmas and Darkness, this tale particularly sent shivers down the spine.

7. Run: As the name suggests, the story did involve a lot of running. The pace of this story was good, and the ending made it quite an interesting tale.

What I loved the most about this book was that the author is excellent in describing the scenarios. Be it the surroundings or the feelings communicated by the characters, I could easily visualize and feel them. These stories are not typical ghost themed horror scenarios. Each have underlying plot which is set to give one creeps. And each one of them have an unexpected twist! The vocabulary is so rich, I was spellbound while reading!
Of all these tales if I have to choose Bluebell and ‘Twas the night before Christmas – they left quite an impact. All the stories were quite an enjoyable read, except for the first tale which personally made me feel bored.
The author is quite brilliant, and I would love to read his other works!
I recommend this book wholeheartedly. Just grab a mug of coffee/tea and sit with this book, trust me you won’t regret it.

Actually a 3.5 but rated down.

Lee Allen's book consists of seven horror/thriller/chiller short stories in a variety of horror genres.

They range from ghost stories, monsters, crime thriller etc. I must say it's fantastic to see an author just throw themselves happily into the horror genre and try a lot of different niches.

Lee's writing style seems to be able to adapt itself to whatever genre style he picks- while always maintaining a steady pulse of tension within all the stories I read.

My personal faves were:
I killed Dorian
Prisoner

Lee managed within those two especially managed to draw you into the story and the characters- I killed Dorian especially was for the the best out of the 7 and his strongest story. I would love to see this kind of story as a full length novel.

However the reason I've rated it down is mostly due to the flow of these stories and that they weren't all that strong. The first story- a more gothic metaphorical style- was very difficult to get through, and with it being the first story makes it very hard to get you in to read the rest.

There's also the sudden transition between styles that can completely slap you in the face- prisoner is especially graphic- both in gore and the erotic- and it's such a contrast to some of the other styles that I had to actually put the book down just to breathe and making sure I was reading the same book.

I think maybe editing the flow of the short stories would definitely help this- help build up to some of the more intense stories.

Also for me personally I didn't really find any of these particularly horrific or scary. While yes tension was built into every tale it didn't really effect me as other such novels have. However that's only for me personally- may be others who will find this scary. But honestly I think more could have been done for some of these stories.

Overall a great compilation of an author's work- especially for horror and I will be keeping an eye out for more from Lee.

A journey through fog and darkness, destination unknown…
A sexual obsession spiralling out of control…
A forbidden love…
A killer who preys on the lonely…
An investigation into a haunted monastery…
A visitation on Christmas Eve with diabolical intentions…
A night-time escape through the forest…
The past refuses to stay buried when Jessica accepts an invitation to spend Christmas with an old flame and finds herself stranded by a snowstorm…
A father and daughter recount their experiences with the demonic entities known as the Jack O’Lantern Men…
Coming to the aid of a young woman, a young man finds himself seeking answers to questions that may be safer left unanswered…

This deluxe edition of Whispers from the Dead of Night also includes novellas Alone and The Jack O’Lantern Men, novel Bitten and brand new short story Will o’ the Wisp.

My thoughts: this collection of mysterious & horror tales was so spooky & not for the faint of heart! The Jack O’Lantern Men was so creepy that I might have nightmares of the scary men that never leave you alone! 😳 Bitten was so violent & sexually explicit that the vampire story took some time to get through but wow. The other stories were good but Prisoner was so enthralling that I had to finish that one as fast as I could! Kudos to Lee for this collection of creepy stories! 🎉

The book contains 7 phenomenal stories filled with mystery, suspense, paranormal, supernatural, thrilling, chilling that will keep you hooked to book till the end.

My Take

Whispers from the Dead of Night written by the author Lee Allen. He has written many other extraordinary books that I'm sure you will love.

I have not read many horror stories and when I started reading this I had no expectation of what to expect or what will happen, but as I finished reading the stories one by one the experience I had was mind-blowing. I love the balanced writing of suspense and the trailer.

When you watch or read a horror story, in the back of your mind you know something is going to happen that will make you gasp. And every time you think this is the time it turns out to be not and when you least expect with the bang it shocks you. Hahaha.

The same surprise level of this book is awesome. As intriguing the title of the book is I found it a perfect match to the stories as they were interesting, the stories balance all emotions in one without being in melodramatic. Each story brings a different flavor of horror which engages even those who are uninitiated to the genre.

Stories are scary in their own way. The book combines paranormal things with fiction, Science, and mythology, so well that you will not be able to keep the book down.

Read this and go on an adventure with paranormal stories each of which is unique on its own.

Overall it's a Masterpiece of seven stories that have closely guarded suspense which takes you to a different world of paranormal. Highly recommended for readers who don't hesitate to chart into unknown territories.

I chose this one as I have recently started reading books from the Horror genre. And I have to say, the book did not disappoint. Packed with suspense-filled stories, this is the deluxe collection of seven original stories and a bonus of 2 novellas and a novel. So it is quite a package!
The plot for every story is different and they are intense as the author builds it the suspense slowly. You can find plot twists at unexpected places which will throw you off the trail. Once you get started you will be turning the pages faster and faster to see where the story will take you. The stories are spooky and give you goosebumps too! At first, I thought the book is just filled with gothic horror stories but as I read on I felt it was a mix of erotica, paranormal, and thriller as well.
The writing is detailed. Many scenes are elaborately described and at some places, I felt it led me away from the thrill and suspense. Otherwise, the author gets you on the scene and you can visualize the things happening right in front of you and that’s where you can feel the creepiness.
The vocabulary is slightly advanced but I enjoyed it nevertheless. My favorite was ‘I killed Dorian’ and ‘Bluebell’ comes as a close second. The cover is so apt and justifies the theme for a book of this genre.
In all, it is a spine-chilling collection of stories filled with gothic horror and supernatural suspense with a dash of erotica. This is a one-time read for me. If you love horror stories, I’m sure you will love this one.

I have always been a lover of mysterious stories and I continue to explore this genre.

Whispers From The Dead Of Night is a collection of seven stories which are spooky and paranormal in some way, as the cover clearly reflects. The book is short but author has taken some time to build every story perfectly.

All the stories in this book are set in Winters and they are a perfect read if you are looking for a cosy and a terrifying read. Lee Allen, right from the first page, has shown commendable writing skills in this book. He has literally given detailing of each and everything that happens in the book, which is good. However, after some time, I felt lost and confused because there was so much of detailing with shallow plot in the some stories.

Writing style of this book is moderate and ambiguous to some extent. Beginners or people, who don't have command over language, may face a hard time in understanding stories. This book has a narration, which will interest people who love to read rich vocabulary and intense plots.

What i highly admire about the book is, it's detailing to some extent. As when things are explained in detail, it gives an account of what exactly is taking place, where the story is set. However, too much of anything is futile and spoils the mood.

Recommending this book to all the people who would love to read stories based on paranormal activities and mystery. These stories are not that horrifying so anyone, who is slightly in this genre can read it.

The book is a compilation of seven different stories with distinct and edgy plots. This is under mystery/thrill genre. Tackling about paranormal activities, horror, suspense and mystery. Each stories were neatly sculptured with spooky kind of vibe. The author’s narration is catchy because of its poetic and rhyming placing of words. The way it was narrated is very engaging and will give that creepy and eerie vibe all throughout. It gives excellent description about the scenes and some plots were finely written by the author at the most unexpected parts. Each story has an underlying plots and twist which is unique. This also has a rich vocabulary and a complex story which may confuse other readers especially for those who aren’t that familiar with deep vocabularies might have a hard-time.

All stories gives its own eerie and mystery vibe in common. The stories were loaded with suspense, thrill, very complex and mind-blowing plots. Some may have its stumbling blocks brings confusions and sometimes finding yourself difficult to connect. The vocabulary also stipulates great description which gives heavy sensual imagery. Overall, this is a great book for those who have interest in horror/mystery. With its unique and effective narration, it will effortlessly keep you engaged. They have different levels of blood-curdling events. For those who aren’t really a fan of this kind of genre can still be hooked because of its bewildering writing style.

Oh my god. I think I am so lucky and grateful to be given the opportunity to read this book. The first reason i picked up this book is because it’s a compilation of short stories which I sometimes opt for when im trying to keep myself entertained after reading a thick book and just wanted to read different stories in a short period of time. I do really like the genre/concept the author tryna gave through this book which is full of mysteries and questions and also a little bit of imagination that my brain can work on. It’s amazed me that the author consistently delivered mystery, story after story.

Amongst all 7 different stories, I really love these two short stories which are ‘The Wanderer’, a story of a man who travels away from his own home and met with Sophie while at the same time being suspicious of the person who nurses him when he heard the sound of baby crying and ‘I Killed Dorian’ because I love crime and mystery altogether. The mystery of the killer and the plot twist was really satisfying to read.

I really recommend this book to readers who love mystery as much as myself but I won’t recommend to the beginners as it may be too descriptive for them and they might not be able to understand where some of the stories might be going. Also, to those who wants to keep their reading in pace or been through reading slump like me at the moment and wanted to get out of it it’s a perfect catch!

Whispers from the Dead of Night by Lee Allen is a collection of seven horror stories, each with its own distinct primary element; exploring different spooky premises, paranormal activities, black magic, dark characters with wonderful narration, telling stories of love, history, memories, betrayal, traveller, crime and Christmas; that surely enjoyed the feeling of restlessness and the writing style that developed supernatural and eerie scenes.

The first story 'A deadly shade of pale' was just amazing. The author nailed it with an elaborate writing style. The second however I found as dull and confusing. 'The wanderer' set the pace again, the plot and setting were on point. 'I killed Dorian' is a thriller one with a mystery to be solved. 'Bluebell' is the story I loved the most, having a perfect location and unveiling of past events. 'Twas the night before Christmas', is a rather dark story portraying black magic and the consequences; one of the most terrifying stories I have ever read. The last story, 'Run' I found tedious and unnecessarily stretched.

If you are into horror, the author has created fine and perfect, gloomy circumstances using his incredible narration. Give it a try.

As the cover of the book portrays, the book is based on horror theme.
Whispers from the Dead of Night by Lee Allen is a collection of seven interesting short stories. All the stories are different from each other, having their own uniqueness. The stories are mysterious, filled with suspense, paranormal and supernatural activities.
Those seven tales of mystery -
A journey through fog and darkness, destination unknown
A sexual obsession spiralling out of control
A forbidden love
A killer who preys on the lonely
An investigation into a haunted monastery
A visitation on Christmas Eve with diabolical intentions
A night-time escape through the forest
Author has done an amazing job , his writing skills are really impressive. Every story has an amazing plot that won't let you feel bore.
The most important element for every horror movies and stories is that it should be scary and not funny and the Author was well aware about this as each story by him is scary in its own way , we could actually feel the chill and thrills while reading the book.
I am not fond of horror movies and stories but after reading this book and I am looking forward to read more such stories.

Thank you @leeallenauthor &@lovebookstours for a free copy for the review

This is a collection of short stories each of which is an amalgamation of gothic horror and suspense.Ranging from old to modern times, each of these stories are shocking and true to their collective name of "Whispers from the dead of night".

What I liked🤩
Short stories are perfect for short breaks and I finished this book during my breaks at work(admittedly none were read during the night shift at the hospital). "Bluebell" is perhaps my favourite of all the stories,"Prisoner "& " 'Twas night before Christmas" came close second.

Though some stories like" Run" absolutely didn't strike a chord with me, overall I liked the writing and being a horror fanatic , thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

So....I think this book will be a welcome addition for anyone who likes gothic horror, suspense and wants a no fuss read.

Holy Hell this book was good!!! Every story within this collection including the novel were gothicly dark, bone chillingly creepy and absolutely brilliant. The writing and the imagery was so descriptive that I was in the action of each story right their with the characters, my heart was in my mouth the whole time.

In some stories of the book there was mythology/folklore infused within the plot which added an extra depth as so many supernatural stories are derived from folklore/myth.

It would be hard to pick a favourite story as they were all good but I especially loved the Jack O'Lantern Men it was deliciously dark and terrifyingly good.

All fans of supernatural, horror, gothic, suspenseful and steamy reads will love this book. It's a definite 5 stars from me.

I am a massive fan of all things horror so I couldn’t wait to dive into this one! To set the scene, I turned the lights down and lit a few candles. I suggest you do the same!

The stories here are all very descriptive and sometimes this seemed a little over the top, however I was still captivated by each individual story and the characters. There is a sense of powerlessness emanating from a majority of the stories and this feeling leads to fear and unease. Putting yourself in the character's shoes is very easy and I very much enjoyed that!

I like stories that provoke emotions and give me physical reactions. Most of these stories did just that, whether it be unease, sadness, shock or something else entirely - this shows me that what I’m reading is good stuff!

A highly recommended selection of strange and spooky stories, perfect for around the campfire!

I’d like to thank Lovebookstours for allowing me to be part of this tour! I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. Views and opinions are my own and have not been influenced by anyone.

This was a stunning collection of short horror stories.

From the first page, I had chills. In places, there was a kind of dark ambiguity about the writing, and I felt that I had to read slowly and carefully, and stopped to ask myself, what is this character trying to say? I really enjoy writing like that.

Some of these stories were sexually explicit, which was something that I hadn't anticipated initially. There was a predominant theme of lust and desire, and at times, I began to feel that I, the reader, was being seduced by the character or narrator.

With some of the stories, I also experienced a desire to know or feel close to the narrator. I did enjoy all of these stories, which strikes me as slightly unusual, because I find that with a lot of short story collections, there are some that i really enjoy and some that i feel indifferent to.

If you like eerie short stories, you should definitely give this a try.

Whispers from the Dead of Night by author Lee Allen is a collection of seven interesting stories. As cover portrays and title goes are stories are horror stories involving dead/ haunted/ paranormal etc.

Each story is unique, but all stories contain mystery, creepy/gloomy, entertaining and gripping in common. Authors presentation skills are too good in each story he starts with portraying the environment in detail thereby sets the stage for the plot. Wouldn't disclose any of plots as it takes away the thrill/ fun of reading. One would surely get blown away by each of the stories and feeling stays on for a while. Plots are unpredictable with twists and sense of mystery, narration is spooky and detailed, keeps readers hooked to the plot with suspense/curiosity till the end and language is not very easy. Stories are not interrelated so can be read at ease and personally liked "I killed Dorian" of them all.

Would recommend to all readers who enjoy reading horror fictions.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Love Books Tours for the digital copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

When I began reading this collection of stories, I imagined supernatural tales full of shivers and intrigue. I wasn’t expecting graphic scenes of lust-filled and satanic ritualistic sex and sacrifice. That particular tale is not for the faint hearted or those of a delicate nature, and don’t judge me but I was compelled to read on…

The writing was at times poetic, fast-paced, engaging, and always rich.

The settings and characters were well written in my opinion, particularly in the more gothic or historic scenes. Every story felt completely individual but with recurring themes running through them of identity (never as it appeared), love/lust (twisted or otherwise), and horror (from the insidious to the downright gory).

Overall I enjoyed this collection and recommend it for bookworms who dare to enter the dark side this Halloween.

This is a collection of seven spooky stories, perfect for those dark and chilly nights.

There is something for everyone in this collection: a man on a boat in a sea of mist; a prison guard full of desire to meet the Great Mistress of the Night with tragic consequences; an injured wanderer recuperating in a childless couple's house hears a baby crying in the middle of the night; a pact made with the devil...

My favourite story by far was 'I killed Dorian', it was well paced. In this story, two unidentified Caucasian males are found dead in a hotel room. The killer leaves a message written on a mirror to Detective Fiennes and signs it as 'Dorian'. Soon, another couple is killed... Fiennes need to do everything in his power to catch the killer.

Unfortunately, some of the other stories felt prolonged - if only all of them were as well paced as 'I Killed Dorian' or 'Prisoner'. Saying that, all stories are beautifully written with amazing and detailed descriptions.

My rating 3/5.

Immersive Thriller.⁣
Lee Allen's collection of 7 short stories is haunting, compelling and hard to put down. Full of suspense, mystery and horror, the stories are dark, twisted and thrilling. ⁣
First point narration of the book allows the readers to explore the peculiar world vividly. It sucks you in and doesn't let you go. ⁣
The author's writing style is bewildering, the detailed descriptions literally send chills down the spine. ⁣
The spooky settings and occult theme will creep you out, it justifies the horror genre. It is as intriguing as the title, keeping you hooked till the last bit. Each story leaves you awestruck.⁣
Whispers from the Dead of Night makes the monsters under your bed come alive!⁣
I would give this book 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and highly recommend to the readers of horror and occult fiction. ⁣

7 stories with an entirely different storyline of its own. let’s begin with the deathly shade of pale which happens to be my favourite from the bunch. It was adorable. every line felt like a poetic verse, rhymic and oh so lovely.
‘I was so terrified of not being able to love you enough. How can I love you how you deserved when I cannot even love myself?’
the pain of loss and the aftermath of it has been penned down in a beautiful manner in ‘A deathly shade of pale’
Is there even a choice to let go ?
And the other story that like the most from the bunch is ‘ I killed dorian’
May be it’s not always the plot or the progression of a storyline, it’s the narration in this book that’s incredible. Told in a way that effortlessly keeps a reader engaged. spooky element did manage to buzz all throughout the story. Every story had its very own charm. Overall, a very great read.

The seven stories of mystery with a touch on supernatural genre will blow your mind away.
This book will definitely let you cross seven pathways:a journey at the dead of the night through darkness. Black. You could feel the colour transition of the night sky:black to purple ,yet you won't be able to escape from the forest of forbidden love.
Each story will make you see the unseen, even in the dark. The author knitted the words in such a way that could make you feel the adrenaline rush. You won't find yourself alone. A constant sense of creepiness will climb onto your body and trigger you for a while.
The author has presented the story with minute details. I loved how the book kept me hooked till the end. The title is apt. The book cover is intriguing.
Grab the book and be ready to hear voices at 2A.M.
Did I just scare you away? (😬)
