Rate this book
Gabriel has endured so much in his vampiric existence. Now he’s ready to fight the one who betrayed him. While Alexander isn’t his sire, they’re bound together in so many ways that are unbreakable.

Now Gabriel has not only Karl, his childe, but also Karl’s lovers to take into consideration. Revenge is a powerful motivator and it fuels Alexander along with pure anger as he blames Gabriel for the death of his own lover and sire.

Understanding what’s at risk, Gabriel has chosen the location for their final showdown with care, a remote town in the wilderness. The one thing he didn’t expect to find was a human whose very presence threatened to undermine everything.

Will Alexander strike, taking his revenge on Gabriel, or will he choose another route to seek and obtain his vengeance?

Once the dust settles, who will be left standing to face a new dawn?

I live in Leeds a vibrant city in the North of the UK. I’ve always loved reading, and one of my fondest memories from childhood was the weekly visits to the library with my dad. It always seemed such a magical place to escape into through the books I read on a weekly basis.

I’d not really thought about writing in my adult life until I was introduced to the world of Fanfiction and after reading so many I found myself making friends through this new media. My friend, Lori, told me to have a go at writing one, and I did. That work took on a life of its own and opened my eyes to the possibilities. This allowed me to get used to plotting a story and while making the characters my own. I also started to beta/pre read for others and discovered, that much to my surprise, they valued my opinion and input.

Making the move to write M/M or slash as it’s known, took me a little longer. After becoming good friends with a wonderful lady from Illinois called Angela, who told me (repeatedly), “You should write slash, I think you’d be good at it.” I shied away from the idea for so long, but the seed was firmly sown in my mind and soon took root and a life of its own. I decided to write a short piece as a surprise gift for Angela’s birthday that year. Emailing it to her, given the time difference between the UK and US this meant I was desperately waiting for her to see it and I think I heard her delighted scream.

Thanks to this, and working on writing group competition, I soon found that I preferred writing M/M to M/F.

In 2013 fate intervened and I lost my job. Through my new one, I met Nicole Colville, and the rest is history. This marked the start of a beautiful friendship. She encouraged me to make the switch to writing original fiction, and I signed up to Nano Wri Mo 2013, but due to changing jobs I couldn’t do it. In 2014 I signed up again, and smashed the 50K word goal in 30 days, with a story I love and am proud of.

I’ve been beta/pre reading for Nicole over 17 books now (including the 10 shorts in Knights) and the confidence she inspires in me has been invaluable in me joining this anthology, even though I think the word ‘no’ doesn’t feature in her vocabulary.

In Before the Dawn, the first book in Louisa Mae’s Dawn series, we meet the trio of Karl, Zayn, and Ethan. After the Dawn, the second book, is all about Gabriel’s return. The final installment, A New Dawn, brings us to the climactic conclusion, at least for now, and is the inevitable showdown between Gabriel and Alexander. For readers familiar with the men in this must-read-in-order series, it has all been building to this conclusion… and what a suspenseful and heartfelt finale it is.

In the very beginning there was hope, desire, and lust that Alexander was the person for Gabriel. Their secret rendezvous and intense coupling filled Gabriel’s heart with both anticipation and despair. That is, until the devastating betrayal, unthinkable abuse, and Alexander’s warped sense of reality ran its course. Now the time has come to put an end to it all. There is no doubt that only one of them will remain when the dust settles. But who will it be?

Choosing a remote cabin, Gabriel anxiously awaits the final battle. To his surprise, Karl, Zayn, and Ethan track him down with the intent of battling it out together. Gabriel has never had this level of support and, dare to say, love from anyone during his unforgiving existence. Yet, the confinement of four vampires in such a small space becomes unbearable. In an effort to release the building pressure, Karl sends his lovers, Zayn and Ethan, home to Chicago. However, the strain doesn’t lessen and continues to build, resulting in the unavoidable – and guilt – which sends Karl dashing back to his lovers.

For readers familiar with the men in this must-read-in-order series, it has all been building to this conclusion… and what a suspenseful and heartfelt finale it is.

Alone again, Gabriel is drawn to Riley, the intoxicating young man in the local village. Gabriel is aware this endangers Riley, but he is unable to withstand the pull that has dire consequences for the young man. Riley knows there is something unique and different about Gabriel and is no stranger to the undead. His home town of Wicker Falls has a secret that is revealed in Louisa Mae’s Torn (A lovely read, but not necessary to follow this series.) And, his compassion for Gabriel, even after the life-altering events unfold, is indescribable, ripping my beating heart from my chest.

The distraction of Riley, coupled with the departure of Karl and his lovers, gives Alexander the opportunity to strike upon Gabriel. The confrontation is a battle of equally matched wills and, as predicted, only one man is left standing. However, that man is further broken and on the verge of insanity. The outcome is disastrous, with repercussions that change everything. Yet, there is a prevailing sense of hope and closure on the horizon.

I could not help but weep for the events that brought Gabriel to the here and now, hopeful tears that Gabriel may finally settle.

A New Dawn is Gabriel’s conclusion, or at least his new beginning or “new dawn.”. The tense showdown culminates all the pain, destruction, grief, and hope that resides within Gabriel’s tortured existence. Karl, Zayn, and Ethan are a part of him and always will be. But Riley promises to be the stimuli to put the past behind and look to the future. I could not help but weep for the events that brought Gabriel to the here and now, hopeful tears that Gabriel may finally settle.

Once again the stunning Gabriel Phoenix adorns the cover of A New Dawn, with the equally handsome Niall Perry. The cover is exquisite and completely aligns with my mind’s eye image of both Gabriel and Riley. I am definitely a cover whore and keep going back to swoon over this one.

A wonderful and gripping third book to the series. As Gabriel awaits the inevitable and dramatic final battle with Alexander in an isolated cabin in the woods, the tension between himself and Karl builds. Karl sends Zayn and Ethan away to protect them from what's coming, leaving just himself and Gabriel alone. Day by day the tension surrounding the arrival of Alexander and also their feelings for each other build until the inevitable happens. When Karl leaves to return to his lovers, Gabriel is left all alone but is drawn to a mysterious man named Riley who works at the store in the local town. Gabriel knows it is dangerous, but he can't keep away, resulting in dire consequences for Riley. The battle between Gabriel and Alexander is dramatic and very well written, as is the aftermath with life never being the same for both Gabriel and Riley.

This is a fantastic third book in the series, with the events leading up to the inevitable battle with Alexander. The battle scene itself is beautifully written with the reader feeling the tension throughout. Add in Riley and his connection to Wickers Falls and the plot thickens. A must read, especially if you have read the previous two books.
