The Dawn Thief

Outside of an astoundingly large population of rats, roaches and rejects, most wouldn't consider Cresvy to be a place of particular interest. A concrete jungle pressed against a wind battered coast, if the smell didn't ward off a sane man the people inevitably would, for even the citizens would prefer to be just about anywhere else. In short, an onlooker would likely be deemed wise for fleeing from the forgotten little borough, though not solely on the basis of concerns regarding hygiene or a mugging.
For the little town of Cresvy is home to hell incarnate.
There monsters aren't the creatures that lurk in the shadows and prowl dark street corners, but is a tangible and dangerous beast hidden by a convincing form, easily mistaken for a neighbour, a friend, an ally. Less a wolf disguised by sheepskin, but the devil parading in human flesh.
For the past 17 years, Silas has spent his nights in a cell and his days in chains. A monster and an outcast who has had it ingrained into him that his very existence was a danger to everyone he loves. Left alive by virtue of the fact that his dangers can be bound, his fangs rendered dull and his beast tamed, but the life he is permitted is a pitiful one.
And a history painted with blood and riddled with tragedy has done little but convince him that this is the truth, and that his fate is one he has earned.
When a day meant for celebration and excitement ends in massacre, the monster might become the saviour. With war on the horizon, he will have the chance to secure the peace his Kingdom has earned through bloodshed, death and tears.
But between him and salvation, a war torn country and a rebellion desperate to spark war. Will Silas earn his freedom once and for all, or will he only turn out to be the monster his kingdom have always feared him to be.

Originally I'm from West Yorkshire, in a village with one claim to fame and that is that one of the people from X-Men was born there, Old Professor X if that's of any interest to anybody.
Writing is honestly one of the earliest memories I have, particularly one time when I was little when I remember disliking an episode of the Little Mermaid television show, and electing to rewrite it. But I only began writing stories with my own stories and characters during the most difficult time of my life. When I was younger I suffered an injury in which I broke my back, fortunately I was fine but that left me with bedrest in which all I was able to do was do homework, watch television or read. In typical procrastination style, I elected the unknown fourth option, and began writing for myself for the first time. That book was a piece of gobshite and will never see the light of day, but the passion it instilled in me for writing persists to this day.
My current and only published book (still squeaking about that fact, doubt I'll ever stop) is the Dawn Thief. Something I began writing on the 22nd of February, before the world went mad and quarantine set in, but the majority of that book was written in an effort to stop me losing my mind of boredom.

So I ended up reading this because of your subtle plug on JacksFilms' twitch stream and dangit. I really liked it. Sure, there was the occasional spelling error or grammatical mistake but they did nothing to detract from my enjoyment. Also, you used "bull in a china shop" enough that it made me giggle when I saw it the next time, haha. I think I'll be using that one from now on, I quite like it actually.
I've been going through an extreme reading slump for quite a while now, every book I've picked up I've wound up putting down and not getting back to.
This though? Your style of writing kept me wanting to keep going, wanting to keep turning the page to see what would happen next. I was invested in Silas all the way through and because I get very easily attached and emotional when it comes to fictional characters I did, in fact, cry while reading this. I hadn't even gotten halfway through and you already made me cry and you know exactly why. How dare you >:(
I read it as an ebook but I liked it enough that I want to buy the paperback now despite the fact that I have like... no money. Look what you've done.
A fantastic first book! Great job!

I was sent this book in exchange for review. :)
Overall rating 3.5
Note: I rate higher if half stars aren’t available.
This Author has a Very poetic writing style. Hard to get into if that’s not your thing, and it was an adjustment for me since I just came off of reading a series of middle grade books. I wouldn’t call that a negative, only a stylistic preference to take note on. :)
Not gonna lie I struggled at first to get into it until the “hook” so to speak. However, I often struggle with that in most books. Silas is Strong main character who I absolutely loved. I enjoyed the variation of spoken verses inner monologue. It was an interesting combination done in a way i don’t see all the time.
A few grammatical problems here and there. Not bad enough to deter from enjoyment.
Overall wolves got brought back for me with this one. If it sounds like something you’re interested in, I recommend checking it out.
