Hughes defines the 'River Guidebook' with this work on Oregon's famed Deschutes River. From the headwaters to its confluence with the Columbia, this book covers the river, its wildlife and ecosystems, history, people and more. All with fantastic photographs.
I enjoyed this. It had some natural history, early history, and history of the white man's impact on the river. There are also 2 out of 8 chapters that are about fishing that I skipped, although i did look at the photos and captions. This is much more than simply a book by a fisherman of the Deschutes and pays dividends for anyone interested in the river. There is also an excellent map of the Deschutes and its tributariesin it.
