If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three. Nadir wanted Amai… Amai secretly wanted him... Nadir came with a lifestyle that she questioned if she could handle. Amai resisted, until her current situation could no longer be tolerated. Nadir wanted her to accept him and take a chance. So, she did, and then boom... life happened.
I heard about The Black Effect via Instagram, and the reviews were so excellent and intrigued me so much that I just had to give it a try. As a matter of fact, once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I thought the theme of the book was phenomenal and unlike any other polyamorous marriage theme books that I have previously read. It's about friendships, family, falling in love, and finding your voice. You will find a girl feeling lost in her new life while watching others obtain what she wants. Realizing that she doesn't even know who she is because she has never been able to explore it without the assistance of others. Then you have Nadir, who is a control freak and thinks that everything in his life is perfect and everyone is happy. What he thought he had under control was actually a facade, and in one single day, his world was turned upside down.
These two had a lot of growth to do, and the process wasn't easy; it was downright painful and bitter. Both were having to deal with their parent's manipulating the situation. The Black Effect was excellent! It had all the makings of a great novel; romance, betrayal, and loyalty. Lewis did a fantastic job telling their story and showing the growth of each individual in her book and how communicating and accepting that people can change will make for a peaceful and happier existence. I am so glad Book 2 was already out because I think I would have gone crazy if I had to wait for it.
I wish I would've read this book sooner. That's how good it is. Very well written, great character development and storyline. My very first time reading a story where the author chose to write about polygamy. The prologue alone had me completely drawn into this book. Amai wanting to escape the strict hold of her parents finds herself in a situation that she questioned and also judged. Feeling she can no longer deal with her parents she gets involved with Nadir but the grass was not that greener on the other side. What I do like about Amai is that she is finally being more vocal with her feelings and has gotten out of her submissive shell. As things transpire she no longer cares what people think of her. This book will have you fed up with Amai but once you see her shift into a different person, you can't help but to root for. Now that she has a taste of freedom will Nadir's wrath be worse than what he's displayed so far and what will the outcome be for Amai. Can't wait to read how things end in part 2. Great job Charae.
Wow! Can I just say, I would never...! 😂but, Amai took a leap of faith and married Nadir. I didn’t know what to expect with this one but Charae never lets me down. I personally liked Nadir; he was kind of mysterious but loyal. Amai had a hard time adjusting to the change and having to share her husband. I wasn’t a fan of either mothers, especially Lena and Phia was beyond phony. While I don’t agree with the way Amai handled her unhappiness, I completely understand. I just wish she had been honest with Nadir instead of going to the girls because it backfired. Nadir is probably used to getting his way so I cannot wait to see how he handles catching Amai and Canton in part 2. So goood! Towards the end the pace picked up just right and then boom! The bomb happened❤️

This author holds nothing back in delivering stories that keep you on the edge of your seats darn near biting your fingernails down to the nub. This story puts in a polygamous environment with no judgment even though outsiders have their views. I appreciated how it provided insights to its dynamics. Now let's talk about Nadir...I thought that Kadon from We Could Never Be series was too much but whew...Nadir is neck to neck. While I am certain that folks were frustrated with Amai, I wasn't. I understood her frustrated. Nadir did not court her at all. He proposed to her with this new lifestyle that served as her escape from her domineering over religious parents. Seven Days and they were married???? What??? And she was supposed to be good on it just because he provided her a lavish lifestyle. While she may have been his peace, she had none. I love that she is seek self discovery and while it may cost her Nadir, it may not cost herself. On to book 2, the finale.
Amai in just the first few chapters annoyed me. Here she is intrigued with something but yet passing off judgement. I get that what the Blacks do was out of the norm but it’s either be all in and open or dont. Not even a quarter of a way through and I knew Amai would get on my nerves. She has this innocence that I so desperately couldn’t wait for her to get out of. Her first sign of strength was standing up to her parents and even choosing to be with Nadir. Now as the book went on I warmed up to her. Although she’s still this confused, indecisive woman she’s come into herself and finally found her voice. I just know Nadir is going to show his ass in book 2. I appreciate Raye for the true friendship she shows for Amei. Jaide was dead ass wrong. Now Nadir’s Mother is the mother in law from hell and honestly Amai should’ve been stood up to her. I cant wait to see how everything plays out from Nadir & Amai. Phia and Nate and evening mean ass Lena
Now at first I was a little skeptical about the polygamist relationship myself but it could definitely be done tastefully as I thought it was in Nadir’s marriage. Nadir definitely comes off as controlling and pompous and I definitely didn’t like that. His mother has to go but I’m sure it’s something beneath the surface that needs unveiling. Amai was so immature and definitely not ready for marriage. She rushed from one house to another house where she never cultivated her own life and got to be one with her self. She definitely needs time to mature and she is carrying on about it the wrong way. Phia is such a damn hypocrite and she deserves whatever she receives. Come on part 2
This is one of those stories, that’s so good I don’t have the words to adequately describe it. Just know it’s like going on a topsy turvy… it was thrilling, a little insane, and still enjoyable.
A few of the reviews I read complained about Amai- which I see why people were frustrated with her. But I didn’t feel the same. I think the author did a great job of explaining her naïveté and the reason for her decision making. If anything I don’t like Nadir. He’s a hypocrite and abusive. So I’m curious how this will turn around. Because at this moment Canton is who she should be with; after some time healing (of course). Her immaturity (going from one to the other) is a barrier.
But I’m disgusted by Nadir, so it’s going to take some true change for me to feel differently about him at the end. Between him, Lena, and Phia- I wanted Amai to let them have it.
This book was everything. The characters were all so intriguing and the story captivated me. The ending had me on the edge of my seat. Excited to read the second book.
One thing I love about this author is her ability to write different type of characters and stories. Not one of her books are remotely the same. You never let us down with your creativity and I appreciate that. This book was no exception. It was good and I honestly didn’t know where the story was going. I actually didn’t mind Nadir, he wasn’t perfect but I didn’t dislike his character at all. He was honest with almost everything, except that one thing. The main female Amai did irk my nerves a little bit. I didn’t like how she was soo wishy washy, and couldn’t be real with everyone about how she felt. Then got mad at certain people when they called her out on it. I’m interested in seeing what happens next. However I did feel like the main female and male character didn’t really have any chemistry together. There weren’t any sparks when reading the scenes between them. But now having read the end I can kind of see why. Great story and can’t wait to read the next installment.
OMG! I really enjoyed this story. I’m so disappointed in Nadir. I’m glad Amai has Canton since she has no family. But whoa what’s gonna happen now. Nadir ole sneaky self need to just let her good but that’ll be to much like right! Lena and Jaide got what they deserved.
So this story definitely wasn't what I thought it would be and probably the first I've ever read like this. This entire storyline had me captured from the very beginning. There some things I don't like about Nadir but there also things I don't like about Amai. I definitely think she is playing a dangerous game and I can't wait to see how this plays out. Whew chile this was too much.
Man this was so good! I don’t even know how I feel about Nadir. In spite of their polygamy lifestyle neither he and Ali seem to be good men. I understand Amai and her willingness to jump in and get away from her overbearing parents and then her unhappiness because she just really jumped into another controlling situation. I just want her to be free! I’m scared to see what happens next!
This book stressed me out. If it wasn't Amai worrying about her parents, it was Nadir. The lifestyle had me 2nd guessing everything Amai believe in. Like girl, this ain't it but go off. I get her reasoning, but sharing is not caring sis. She wanted the finer things in life and that's what Nadir brings. Nadir overall was a controlling jerk, Jaide can catch these 10s across the jaw. At this point I don't trust Raye or Jaide. I knew Amai wasn't going to last too much longer, but when you fade your in-law, all lol chances of love are at 0. The conversation with Amai and her father in the aftermath, is when I really stopped liking them and Nadir. Now Canton, I'm on his side, he's brought things Nadir has not displayed. I want to see more, but by the looks of things trouble is in the air. This is when the BS happens and Charae completely throws our head and hearts in the trash.
Amai is a young makeup artist that is commissioned for a birthday party, and catches of Nadir. He offered her a lifestyle that is unfamiliar, but struggling to get out of her parents home...she accepts. Once inside, she realizes that she may have stumbled upon more than she has bargained for.
I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎book about the polyamorous lifestyle by @charae_rozay.
I'm always tripping when an author can write a story so well; things you always said you'll never do, they can tell it in a way to have you second guessing yourself 😂 Amai- she wasn't with this shit Nadir had going on, then she was, then she wasn't, then...🤦🏾♀️ For three years a contract made four people a solid unit that came crashing down when one felt betrayed by the other. Amai, Raye and Jaide built a bond that anyone on the outside looking in would never be able to understand. Hell I'm still baffled! 🥴 I like Raye, she is my favorite. She is so sweet and is such a genuine person. Nadir should have been checked Lena frfr. That lady disgusted me with the way she acted. And Nadir pissed me off with letting her get away with it for so long.😏 I still don't know how I feel with how Canton handled the situation with his cousins. That's a "you gotta be in that situation to say what you would do" moment 🤷🏿♀️ Nate and Phia🤦🏾♀️ truthfully I don't even know where to begin with these hypocrites. 🤨 Nadir is one hell of a man to bring three woman under one roof and ummm. Well see... It's just...Wait let me come back to this🥴 He was a straight boss, boss😂 Everything was peachy until Jaide revealed what Amai had told her in private. Now things just seem to fall apart. Jaide didn't give a damn about nobody but Jaide and a dollar, periodt! She was one shiesty azz heffa! I lost count on how many times I bodied slam her🙄 Frfr, Lena and Jaide should have hooked up and became a couple🥴. I mean Jaide wanted so badly to please her🤷🏿♀️. This was an extremely different read by this author and she rocked that ish! 5*
This book was bomb AF😂! I was so intrigued with the storyline and overall plot! Not a fast read, but I read the book in one sitting and that’s how I know it was great because it kept me entertained! Amai’s character throughout the whole book was a bit annoying. I was waiting for that moment for her to boss up and tell Nadir her feelings after she decided to go through with his lifestyle.
I understand why she was hesitant and I also understand why she was concerned about what her parent would think of it all. She lived with them her whole life and was use to a relationship being 1 woman & 1 man👀. Nadir wasn’t really patient with her. In the beginning he was giving me bae sparks regardless of his lifestyle but then that changed. Especially tomorrows the end! I don’t know who’s mama is crazier. Lena, Nadir’s mom or Phia, Amai’s mom. I couldn’t have been Amai siting at that table while my mother in law throwing jabs at me! Girl bye🙄 and Phia was a fake Christian for sure😂. Then there’s Canton. Hunny he a setup and I said what I said😂 . Starbucks guy👀👀👀*insider* READ THE BOOK EVERYONE😂. Overall the story was great! I love how Charae continues to think outside the box when writing these romance novels and I can’t wait for part 2!
Amai and her twin Amir just wanted a cool life without their over the top religious parents criticizing everything and everyone. Amai was a make-up artist and she logged blogging. When she meets her newest client Rae whose husband is looking for his third wife to complete their circle. Nadir Black reeks money, power and his chemistry with Amai is undeniable. As Amai is in her 3rd year of marriage, no kids yet, she is starting to see this wonderful, rich life is not for her but Nadir has no plans on letting her go. Canton has his own business on the beach and when he meets Amai there is something here but he respects her and wants her to be sure of herself and the relationship she is in. Jaide the 2nd wife throws shade at Amai and shid hits the fan. Nadir blows up on Amai and she is now living the single life. Nadir is looking all over town for Amai. Amai isn’t dad reveals her mother been clowning and they basically sold themselves to Nadir in return not reach out to her. Amai believes she has it all figured out as she hangs with Canton but Nadir has something different in mind.... oh boy!!
What a story! I didn't know what I signed up for but I'm glad I decided to download this book! Amai was naive and was swept into such a complicated atmosphere with Nadir. This book did make me look at polygamy from a nonjudgmental standpoint. The lifestyle was portrayed positively and negatively in this book. I sympathized with Amai on her pursuit to get out of her bible thumping overly religious parents household. The desperation drove her into the arms of Nadir before she even knew the man. The situation got even more complicated when Canton popped up on the scene. I still don't trust him and I wouldn't be surprised if he's an enemy of Nadir in some way. I did like Amai's relationship with Amir. This book covered the topics of polygamy, religion, blackmail, trust, dysfunctional family, wealth, naivete, abuse, and so much more. Amai's difficulty to accept her infertility was understandable. It had to be hard for Amai to watch her husband's spouses conceive, carry and birth his children. This story kept me on the edge of my seat! I cannot wait to read book 2!

This book definitely has it's surprises so be prepared. I think Amai has some soul searching to do. She went from her parents telling her what to do to being with Nadir and having to be committed to what they have going on. She never got to be young and make mistakes. She may be a fit for the family but not at the point in her life when she was first introduced. Lena is definitely shady and I think she knows that Amai has the potential to be something great for her son but she still wants that control. Honestly they felt like Amai didn't stand up for herself but she gave the most resistance when you think about it. I believe if her parents were doing her and her brother right it would have taken alot more convincing. I like Nadir, but he has to understand she wasn't fully ready even if her mouth said one thing. I like Raye and I think Jaide has an underlying problem because she really went too far. Canton is definitely a surprise but not sure what I think of that yet. On to part 2!!!
Reading this book I felt incomplete. It was so many situations that were left unresolved that I couldn't deal. BUT on the flip side after The Back Effect 2 was released I felt some what relieved. I was so disappointed in Canton character. I would call him a (excuse my language) a PUSSY (Lord forgive me for that bad language) LOL.
I was happy that I got to understand Nadir character more. I was a little worried because he was too controlling and had the potential to be abusive. Completing book 2, put me at ease about Nadir.
I am happy that Amai was able to finally discover herself as a growing young woman. She had me worried at first but she got her isn together. GO AMAI!!
I could go on and on, but I am going to stop right here lol. Definitely a book to read. It will keep you on your toes.

Wheeeeeeeeeew, Charae! Where do I start!!! This was AMAZING! the suspense, the back and forth just begs you to want to know more. I’m so lost for words I can’t even get this review together! This book touched my soul, inspired me, and got me over here snatching my lil edges! The ending scene?!!!!! Canton’s quote??? I had a freaking heart attack! Maaaaaaaan I can’t wait to see this finale! You just dropped bomb after bomb and I’m like, “Hold up coach! Wait a minute!” This book deserves more than five stars. From the character development to the intimacy and how vivid this read was. The scene with Lena and Amai at the hotel was freaking hilarious!!! You are the bomb.com girl! I highly recommend this read!
Amai really got on my nerves. It was crazy that she didn't put much thought into her decision until three years later. Nadir wasn't the average man and he was just as much at fault for Amai's unhappiness. Jaide seemed to be cool at first but Lena was a true bitch that underestimated Amai. Amai's interaction with Canton proved how naive she was. There's no way she thought Nadir would let things go. Wow Phia was judgmental and instead of Nate putting his foot down he allowed himself to be hurt in the end as well. I can't wait for part two because the black effect is soon to come about full circle.
This is my first read by this author as well as my first time reading about polygamy.
It was an interesting read with a whole lot of twists coming from the secondary characters. I'm sorry but Lena was a straight up demon. I strongly believe she was jealous of Amai's position in Nadir's life despite him having two other wives.
I would of like to had more insight into Nadir's reasons for his lifestyle, other than following in the footsteps of his father. Amai's reasons for marrying Nadir contributed to her unhappiness as well as Nadir's selfishness. Her family dynamics irritated me so much!
I'm hoping the sequel will answer some of my questions and offer additional insight to this couple.
Well.. I read the reviews prior because I had seen this booked and skipped past. I must say I wasn’t disappointed cuz! Lol(my last name is Lewis as well). The character development was well thought out and I enjoyed reading and learning all sides.. having said that..... I truly do not like Amai!! There I said it. I get how as a reader we’re here’s to feel for her and walk in her emotions however honey.. I was over and done with her by the honeymoon! Now my dislike is nothing like mother Lena however I need her to get a grip. Waiting on part 2!
Pleasantly surprised and I'll be reading more from this author although i had some small gripes. The wedding between Amai and Nadir was so rushed that there wasn't really any time to connect with the characters. I was expecting Amai to be 'courted' which would have given the readers more time to better understand the dynamics between everyone. I also felt like Nadir wasn't very likeable so I wasn't as invested at the beginning. I didn't expect the drama to go the way it did but the author managed to suck me in and it became very intriguing so I read both parts in one day!
