Before I dive in to this book I must say that when ever I disappear off to explore the east coast I always surprise myself with what I find. Having fallen off the radar for almost a week I impressed with not only the peace and tranquility I found to read so many wonderful books but also the stumble across gems I never in my wildest dreams expect to find - Dreamlands is my point in case.

This is another of the ever decreasing number of Paper Tigers books I am still looking for. This one was from the early 90s when I felt the publisher was at its more prolific (and possibly heading towards the crash that saw the title fall from grace and such wonderful books disappear from the bookshelves).

I do not need to say which author this book is showcasing just that walking around a field looking at the contents of various peoples garage clearances and unwanted stuff I stumbled across this almost pristine edition. Those of you from the UK will recognise the almost religious attention such "carboot sales" garner. It was almost comical how the stall holder apologised for such an expensive book (which in actual fact I would have paid a lot more for it). The greatest of ironies is that this was bought in the same town where I was first introduced to this series of books by my brother far too many years ago.

But what of the book - well as with all the series the pages are covered with lavish copies of his work - interestingly in their original formats (so for example for commissioned book covers you can see the boxes where the words would go although none had been added). However the only slight issue I had was that none of the pieces gave an indication of what they were for or who had commissioned them (in hindsight I was a far more fun looking up titles of books I felt I should recognise or checking out titles of pieces to see who had used them most recently).

There are times when I wonder how much longer I should keep looking in these strange and out of the way places for those missing parts of my collection. All I can say is that finding a title like this just reaffirms I should keep on looking and never think that there is nothing wonderful still to discover.

One of my favorite fantasy art books. Harrison's paintings are truly eye-popping, and he's painted some of the most spectacular book covers.
