excellent overview and introduction for someone who doesn't know anything about art and wants to! i really enjoyed this book, and the last few chapters were my favorite.

I'm rating the sixth edition, published in 1980. It completely skipped postmodern artists and theorists. Haven't reviewed the later edition.
