I'm not sure if this is an original story, or a retelling of a classic folk/ fairy tale, but the story exploits the familiar theme of magical beings paying back a kindness that was performed for them by some mere mortals - (see The Shoemaker and the Elves). In this tale, a group of children show mercy on some baked goods, who in turn provide food and comfort for this needy family. A pleasant, heartwarming story for a wintry afternoon.
