Far from being an island paradise, the fledgling nations of the Pacific are now among the world's poorest and this study of their plight comes from a respected and prolific writer. Governments of Pacific islands have been in denial about the gross social inequality and poverty in their nations and this work may come as a shock to some readers. This is clearly a major contribution to the discussion of future policy directions to be taken in order for the Pacific islands to develop and prosper in the future.
