Arla Baker is in the most harrowing, complex case of her career...

Detective Baker is called to the scene of a murder in the common. A young woman's body lies with her abdomen slashed open. She was a promising young student, and the daughter of a wealthy businessman. The well connected family want answers, but the deeper Arla delves, the more twisted the secrets of the past become...

Soon, another woman is found dead in her bedroom, killed in the same way. Her family are also wealthy, and the similarity between the two cases are striking.
Arla know she's dealing with a vicious, cold hearted killer, one who is out to make a name for himself. He stays one step ahead of Arla and her team. He taunts and teases them, eager for more blood.
His hunger for publicity grips London city with panic. This killer wants to be on TV, radio and online. He broadcasts his murders on the web. He plays with the media like a pro.

Arla's own personal life is in the spotlight. Her relationship with her colleague, Inspector Harry Mehta is on the ropes. As her relationship spins out of control, Arla discovers something that will transform her whole life. It will push her to the brink, because suddenly she's become the new target of the killer.

When the one friend she trusted betrays her, things become desperate. But the killer is getting closer, and no matter what Arla does, he will not be distracted...

There's no one left to help her. Her back is well and truly against the wall.
She needs to decide her future, and catch a killer hell bent on taking her life.
Will she succeed?

What an exciting adventure with Detective Arla Baker!!!! A wealthy woman is found with her abdomen split open..Everyone wants answers, but the investigation hits twists, turns and past secrets come to light! Soon a second woman is found, also wealthy and promising, putting Detective Arla on a nasty killer's trail. Someone she trusted betrays her, and the killer seems to be getting close. Now Arla is his target, with her back against the wall, no one around to help her...Will she win this bloody battle?!
Exciting story as Arla must use every trick she knows to keep herself alive..Will it work?...
A great police story with fascinating characters and spectacular insight into a different world- the eyes of a killer..

I was so looking forward to gettint my teeth into this new Arla Baker story and M L Rose has nailed it again with a gruesome case.I will say that i was shocked at the outcome as i got it wrong(hahaha)Arla and Harry are a great partnership at work and at home but when yet another case has her boss interfering in the case Arla loses her temper the case is a big one because of who is involved but she is determined to solve it her way.5* I look forward to the next book from M L Rose.

Wow what a read. As usual Ms Rose dud not disappoint. Arla was at her best in funding the murderer of a medical student, who is the daughter of a prominent political figure. Fast paced right until the end. I held my breath a couple if times. Definitely worth reading!

Brilliant

I have read all the previous books in this series and have enjoyed them all. I feel as though Arla and Harry are old friends now. I am now of to read the next book of this series to find out what the pair of them get up to next. At the time of writing this the UK along with the rest of the world is in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic, so if you are having to stay at home, self isolating or just want to forget about the horrors of Coronavirus just for a few hours then I recommend you give the Arla Baker books a try, and I am sure you will enjoy them as much as I do.

Excellent story but author would benefit from a better proof reader .

The plots are excellent although each book follows the exact same path. Killer targets Arla. Arla gets suspended or at least removed as SIO, lots of falling back in shock into Harry’s arms.

For someone who is a target in every book she certainly can’t spot anything suspicious, like her alarm and lights being off (again) yet assuming it’s a power cut affecting only her flat.

Names change, family members of other characters change. The biggest plot issue here though is that Arla’s baby is due July , yet in the next book set in December she only has 7 weeks to go.

Best one yet

The characters in this series are very captivating. We can really get involved with the lives of the main characters and watch how they evolve. The twist and turns of the plot in "The Last Girl" kept me on edge. I especially like the way the sub plot, detailing the life of the criminal, is interspersed with the ongoing investigation. As usual, this comes with a big surprise at the end.

Another great addition to the Arla Baker series! This story was intriguing and yet very quick and easy to read. You jump into the mystery straight off and no time is wasted throughout the story, except for the brief insights on Arla’s personal life (which are always appreciated). Really enjoyed this book, so much that I read it in the space of a few hours! Highly recommend this book, as well as the Arla Baker series in general

Arla Baker Mystery Series Books 4-6
The Last Girl, #5 of the Arla Baker Mystery novels, is a very complex mystery, told very well, a British police procedural with complex characters and a well-defined locale in southwest London. Integral to the story is the local physician's training college, and several of our players are enrolled there. And as has happened many times before while reading an ML Rose story, I was shocked by the solution in the very last few pages of this tale. I think you will be, as well. Mick Bose knows how to bury the lead and lead us on a merry chase.

Great read!

The whole series of books has been great. I am an avid reader and this has been one of the best I have read for a long time. It's a shame that this is the last one in this series but perhaps the author could return to follow other officers at this precincts

This again was a nail biter. Arla is unstoppable. A great can't put it down novel. Harry forever by her side helping in every way. The team works together for the common good throughout the novel. An exciting read for sure. They just get better and better.

Great Series

I have read the first five books in the series and look forward to reading the next book. I enjoy a book that has a mixture of the private lives of the detectives and the criminal aspect of it. And this series has both.

Not a bad police procedural. Although gruesome, it wasn’t a thriller as such. Besides better proofing, an editor is needed to untangle some jumbled story lines.
