About the author

Anisul Hoque (Bangla: আনিসুল হক) is a Bangladeshi screenwriter, novelist, dramatist and journalist. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, trained as a civil engineer.

His inspiration in journalism and writing started during his student life. After his graduation he joined to serve as a government employee but resigned only after 15 days. Instead he started working as a journalist. He attended the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2010. Currently, Hoque is working as an Associate Editor of a Bengali language daily, Prothom Alo.

His novel মা was translated in English as Freedom's Mother. It was published in Maithili too. He was honored with Bangla Academy Award in 2011.

এ উপন্যাসের কাহিনী শুরু ৬৬ সালের ছয় দফা ঘোষণা পরবর্তী সময় থেকে। শেষ ৬৯ এর আগরতলা ষড়যন্ত্র মামলা প্রত্যাহার এ। কাহিনির চরিত্র হিসেবে শেখ মুজিবের পরিবার, তাজউদ্দীন আহমেদ এর পরিবার সহ আরও অনেকেই আছেন। আছে এই সময়ের মধ্যে ঘটে যাওয়া গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রাজনৈতিক ঘটনাবলির উল্লেখ। ব্যক্তিগত পারিবারিক সংলাপ গুলো কিছুটা দুর্বল লেগেছে। উনসত্তরের গণঅভ্যুত্থান ও সামসময়িক ছাত্র আন্দোলন বেশ ভালোভাবেই ফুটিয়ে তুলতে পেরেছেন। আনিসুল হকের লেখনী কিছু জায়গায় খুবই দুর্বল আবার কিছু জায়গায় বেশ ভালো। দুইয়ের মিশেলে ৩ দিলে একটু কম হয়ে যায়, আবার ৪ দিলে কিছুটা বেশি।

An average book that’s set up on an epic backdrop & pivotal point in the history of Bangladesh’s birth. The narration & commentary on the historical events could have been better.

Just reading it to finish the series. Won’t recommend it as stand-alone read.
