Hybrids: Shadow Tribe

Rate this book
Hybrid--a combination of two or more species, breeds, or varieties to form a new and distinct life form.

Humans are constantly trying to improve on what is. Over the years they mercilessly experimented with combining human and animal DNA, trying to create a being they could control and train to fight their enemies. After relentless trial and error, always ending in death to the host mother, as well as the offspring, an outside influence--alien DNA--was secretly introduced and successfully paired the incompatible DNA forms thus creating the hybrids.

The hybrids of Shadow Tribe, the largest of Earth's hybrid communities, enjoy peace and prosperity. They have flourished in their community, as well as in the human world, undetected for generations, until now. Now the very reason they exist is trying to wipe them out--extinguish them. Their enemies are the humans--their creators--who also call Earth home.

An unrest--a disturbance--is growing and making its way around the world as these humans form mercenary groups and go hunting--hunting for the hybrids their ancestors created. Panterë the young and future leader of the Shadow Tribe, and her mentor and fierce warrior protector, Shade, find themselves in the battle of their lives in an unfamiliar and hostile territory. If this fight is lost, so, too, is the future of the hybrids.

Intriguing

I'm kind of a conspiracy theory believer and I could imagine research such as this having gone on and perhaps still going on. I enjoyed the premise of humans being the bad guys with the hybrids being the good guys. This fantasy, sci fi was great to read. The story is easy to follow and pulls you in from the first paragraph. I had to know more about Pantere.

The story takes place mostly in Colorado and Utah with some scenes taking place in British Columbia. Great descriptions of the hybrid villages and the landscapes. As another reviewer noted there are a number of characters but I soon was able to keep them all separated with no problem. They are very diverse with distinct personalities.

Highly recommend this book and am hoping to see more like it in the future. Your new fan, Sydney

Awesome Story, Loved It

I'm not a huge fantasy-science fiction fan but picked this up because I really like this author and it was offered at a great price (free) last year and this book didn't disappoint. It's a great read.
There are a lot of characters in the book but the author made it rather easy to keep them separate and narrowed it down to a few key players. Really enjoyed the characters and their individualities. The story drew me in early and held my attention. It soon became obvious that the hybrids were only trying to survive while a group of humans are determined to kill them.
The hybrids can shape shift and have various special abilities which really added a lot to the story. Fun to read. There is an alien aspect to the hybrids also, which is most interesting. It is not a huge part of the story but it is important for their survival.
I highly recommend this book.
