Whether taking a face plant in a second grade "war," lying to get a pet, setting the fondue kit on fire, or taking the Fifth after an epic food fight,Confessions of a Helmet-Free Childhood is a fun, easy read of trial and error - heavy on the error. Like any kid, she made bad calls, big mistakes, and sometimes simply found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, but lived to tell the tale. Confessions is a collection of 13 stories capturing the laughter and tears of being a kid in the 1960s and 70s. Hey, a lot happened between "Go out and play!" and "Be home before dark."Born the second of four girls, Cinnia’s childhood played out in five different grade schools in New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Illinois. Being small for her age, far from athletic, and a perpetual new kid with an unusual name made for quitea ride.
A short fun book to read. Readers born in 70 will find it timely but even readers born in the 40 and in between also will. We remember being there and doing that. I particularly love Pin the Tail. I played this game so often as a child and it survived two more generations. Indeed a book not to be miss.
The individual stories were humorous and short. It was pleasant reading with scenarios many of us from the same period in time recall in our own childhoods!
