Rate this book
A missing teen. Corrupt cops.

Detective Jake Houser’s search for a missing teenage girl has gone cold when a letter slipped to him through back channels changes everything. Was the missing girl taken by the same man who abducted and killed two girls in 1982? Did Jake’s own police department frame an innocent man for those crimes? Is the real abductor still out there? And why did Jake’s dad choose this moment for one of his rare visits?

When true crime writer Eddie Shaw gets the letter he immediately knows this story will put him back on top: corrupt cops, an innocent man in prison, and a killer on the loose. The missing girl ties the crimes of the past to the present and assure him of a best seller—if he can solve the case.

When these two investigations collide, the dark forces protecting the past fight back.

Can Houser and Shaw find the truth in time to save the missing girl?

I enjoy this Series particularly because of the enduring moral character of protagonist Jake Houser, a Detective with the [sometimes very corrupt] Weston, Illinois Police Department. In this Mystery, Jake is confronted not only with a high school girl's inexplicable disappearance but with a series of cold cases: murders of young girls with post-mortem rapes. Quite possibly, the wrong man was framed and convicted, leaving the guilty to commit further abduction-murders. The corruption which allowed this may come far too close to home for Jake.

Well written mystery, easy to fall into! Well written and suspenseful, with twists and turns that are certain to pull you in and keep you guessing...tons of surprises that are sure have you second-guessing what you just read (in a really good way!) I was concerned initially that this was the fourth book in a series, but that concern was quickly laid to rest as I had no trouble getting into the story - the book can be read as a standalone. If you're looking for a good read, this story is chock full of mystery, edge of your seat twists and turns, corruption, political agendas, cold cases, characters with questionable morals, and the good guys too, this is the one for you! I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving a copy from Hidden Gems.

This book has a well-crafted, well-developed plot. Well- rounded characters. Lots of well-spaced lightbulb moments. I loved the development of the story in the way it was split between the cop and the writer - great construct. All in all a very good read. I was kindly given a free copy of this book in return for my honest review.

When Detective Jake Houser investigates the missing girl, Kate Ballard, little did he know that the past would creep into the present.
Eddie is a true crime writer who also investigates and takes pictures for his incredible books.
Past Made Present is a thrilling mystery that will keep you on your toes. The suspected killer is revealed but what lies in the past is shocking. Not only was he a killer but a protected one at that.
As the story unfolds and you think everything is coming up roses...BAM!! the author throws you for one heck of a loop. Didn't see those two things coming!
A suspenseful story I would definitely recommend!
Thank you Hidden Gems and the author for a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
