She had stumbled across his path long ago, in a time when two moons lit the night sky. She had been on one of her excursions, collection Dragon scales for armor when she saw his eyes. Piercing eyes lurking between the boulders that guarded the mouth of a cave. Their eyes locked. Neither moved.Ah, but first you should know something about her, of the Legend. You see, she carries a mark across her left shoulder, four deep slashing scars — the mark of the Dragon. The villagers found her in the forest, alone and bleeding, curled around a Dragon's scale of Blue and Gold. She was no more than five years of age. No parents were ever found. They took her in, half out of fear and half out of pity. They heard the stories. She might be the one they were told would be found.
This Author creates fantasy so well that you are plunged into its depths and it feels realistic. The imagery is incredible, allowing you to feel, see, and experience everything from the point of view of the characters. A must read!
The world is different. Humans live underground. Dragons rule both land and sky and there's a legend where the two shall meet. The Legend of the Dragon Child is the telling of such things. Where a child is born, fated to bring dragon and human together. This novel is by Cheryl Rush Cowperthwait and I think your middle grader reader will enjoy it! Picture The dragons are coming, but are they evil? Are they coming to destroy the world as the humans know it? No, but some care nothing for the inhabitants of the world they're invading. Thankfully, there are hails seeking asylum and solitude. They wish to coexist with the humans, not destroy them.
In The Legend of the Dragon Child, a queen has crossed from their dimension, a world of fire, smoke and constant battle. She only wants a place of peace for her hail, but there are others who wish to work against her. When she and other dragons enter the human dimension, they do their best to close the portals, allowing the humans to grow accustomed to their presence. But when a child comes into their lair, something changes. Destinies are created, along with paths of betrayal...
Cowperthwait takes nothing and creates two magical worlds! Through fabulous creatures, she tells a story of how differences do not have to divide. Using magic and mythical beasts The Legend of the Dragon Child makes fantasy enjoyable again.. My son, Joshua and I loved it. I truly believe you will too. Check out The Legend of the Dragon Child while I move on to the next read. Cheers!
If you love, “by all that is dragon,” you will fall in love with this magical tale of a little girl and her dragon kin. This is a unique story about dragons finding their way in a world where humans exist. War has claimed many and one special little girl is the key. Will the Urthe people accept Kaida into their world? What about the dragons who have raised her since birth, what will happen to them? So much to discover in this magical tale of The Legend of the Dragon Child.
I really enjoyed how this book began. From the dragon point of view. How and why the dragons came here. How they made their new home. And the different clans of dragons and how they govern. It was interesting and vital to the story. After that the story revolves around a baby human girl the dragon queen Starleira saves and who is believed will grow up to bring the dragons and humans together in some way. That child is Kaida. She is raised in dragon life until she is five years old. (Also during this time she bonds with the dragon hatchling Zlemtec). Then Kaida is given to the humans to raise. The characters continue to be shaped as they grow and that's just the beginning! They will all be tested by unforseen obstacles. The author does an exceptional job of weaving the beginning of an epic tale. A tale of fate, destiny, love, sacrifice and magic. With heart-warming triumphs and heart-wrenching betrayals this is a tale that will leave readers spellbound until the last page!!!
The Legend of the Dragon Child, the fantasy creation of author Cheryl Rush Cowperthwait, is very imaginative. I must admit I was a bit bored with the lack of action in the first section of the work, but it was necessary to set the stage for the coming events. The human child Kaida, raised by dragons. The concept is not new but it gave the exact element to bind the imaginary characters together. The plot and pace of the story I felt were well done, and the story offered much to feed your imagination.
The Kaida and Zlemtec their innocence will lead you on a great adventure that some can only dream about. Raised together becoming the best of friends who enjoy being young. Until destiny intervenes forcing them to live apart. Read the story to find out how one finds a way to protect their friend.
I recommend this story wholeheartedly. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review of this book because I love to read and endorse an author's writing I enjoy without revealing to much of the story to not to ruin it for others.
The Legend of the Dragon Child took me back to my own childhood. It reminded me of sitting around campfires in the mountains, listening to stories read to us by our parent’s, by lantern light. Other worlds slowly revealed, with fantastic creatures sparking wonder as well as our imaginations! Thank you! Looking forward to the next books!
What a delight to read a dragon book from the dragon point of view. The dragon settlement and their interactions with humans through the birth of a human child in their midst created a very different type of story. Cowperthwait included surprises and gives the reader much to ponder. I enjoyed her weaving in of topics I had not seen presented in other such books and enjoyed the implications. Original and a fun read. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. irenebaron.com
Verified Purchase. Imagine Dragons. Not the band, but as a sweeping epic fantasy that challenges and stokes the imagination. It's the story of a young girl found in a hostile forest, alone and injured, carrying what will later be discovered by her rescuers as the 'mark of the dragon.' I will not divulge spoilers here. Suffice to say that good and evil dragons dominate the many fiery landscapes of human asylums (or 'peoples').
The atmosphere Ms. Cowperthwait creates is breathtaking: dragons who can speak fill the skies with aerial conflicts worthy of the Battle Of Britain. Their mighty breaths emit powerful spouts of smoke and fire at each other as they circle the vaults of heaven. These skirmishes for space are the centerpiece for the inhabitants of Urthe and other portals created by these magnificent creatures.
There are scenes of quiet beauty as well, making you care for the characters. The struggle for dominance in this magical world is contagious, alliances are formed against invading tribes of evil antagonists. A young girl, Kaida, soon takes center stage in a story ripe with rivalries, poisonings, and transformations. This is a brilliantly written fantasy, especially for dragon lovers.
Not normally a huge fan of these kinds of books, I found this well written and a pleasurable read. Page after page, drawing me into another world which is hard to do, kudos for spinning an amazing tale. I won't be a spoiler, but pick it up and give it a read. You won't be sorry.
