Aubrey Wilson was an international authority on marketing who educated professionals about effective marketing techniques and published widely on the subject.
Until the late 1970s the bodies that regulated the activities of professional practices stipulated that their members could not actively seek business but had to rely instead on referrals from third parties. Following a Monopolies Commission report in 1970 into restrictive practices in the professions, the barriers began to crumble.
Through an extensive programme of lectures, seminars, articles, individual consulting assignments and two books, The Marketing of Professional Services and Emancipating the Professions, Wilson took the lead in educating professionals.
