When the devil holds the dice the odds are stacked against you.
Inspector Hardy has retreated to Dorset on the south coast where he plans to spend long overdue quality time with his young daughters and pregnant partner. The sabbatical is short-lived when he is thrust back into the dark world of murder after a family with twin boys is found dead at their home in the countryside.
Hardy pulls together a small team to investigate the devastating crime, which is the latest in a series of similar crimes. With no apparent motive and the only similarity between the families being twin boys, the team struggle to hunt a killer who seems unstoppable.
Jay Gill was born in Poole, Dorset, United Kingdom. At aged 18, Jay moved to London where he worked in the printing industry, specialising in pharmaceutical leaflets and packaging. After years of commuting and working in this fast-paced environment, Jay moved back to Dorset with his family to enjoy the slower pace of life on the south coast. It was at this point that he carved out time to develop the detective thrillers that had been rattling around inside his head.
He lives with his wife and two daughters on the south coast of England, and though he loved the twenty-something years he spent in and around London, and the home counties, he feels settled and at peace in his native Dorset.
Having pre ordered this book a long time ago I was happy when it arrives on my kindle. It didn't for one minute disappoint. The storyline was believable and the characters true to Jay Gills writing. The only problem with this book was it was over far too quickly. I do hope that Hardy et al are back sooner than later. Brilliant story, Mr Jay Gill, and congratulations.
Killing Shadows is another good story in Inspector James Hardy's series. Jay keeps you interested all the way through the book, with tension, twists and turns and humour, I've already pre ordered book 7, even though it amost a year to wait, so looking forward to it, Jay is the first auther to take me out of my usual paranormal/romance genre.
the James Hardy series has you emotionally involved to the point you can visualise and picture the characters.
Heaven forbid something terminal happens to any of them as their twists and sometimes bad fortune have me on the edge of my seat. I A+++ script and story telling
Another amazing read, which kept me enthralled the whole way through, as with all the books I always seem to have a one more chapter analogy, then realise what time of the night (or early morning) it is. Cannot wait to read more from this author.
Another brilliant story in the life of DCI James Hardy and his team along with his family. This is such a good series but it should be read in order, I am hoping there will be more than one more to come.
Authors are often asked where we get our ideas from and usually, we don't know. From my own experience, each book often starts with a scene or question that comes to mind, and like an itch, I want to give it a good old scratch.
Killing Shadows started with the twins and the possible motivations of the killer. I then set about making notes and developing a few chapters, and from there I begin writing characters to make sure the story had depth and would be of interest to me, and you. As many of my long-time readers know I love writing characters, it's those characters and their dialogue that breathe life into a book.
Killing Shadows was the first I've written where we don't know the killer at the outset and approaching the story in this way was a great deal of fun and a new challenge. I had to stop myself revealing the character on numerous occasions!
Once underway the story came to me quickly and the chapters flowed onto the page easily. It was a joy to write and I hope you feel/felt the same while reading.
