Here is some brief information about myself.

I’m interested in science because it helps us to understand the world. I enjoy finding out about new things and then working out how to write about them in a way that is both clear (and accurate) but which also conveys my own excitement and interest. I particularly like writing books that are fun, and I have been lucky to have had so many chances to do so.

I was born in Yorkshire in England, but grew up in Stranraer, a small town in south-west Scotland. I graduated from Edinburgh University and then came down to London, where I have lived ever since. I enjoy reading novels, watching films, and walking in the countryside.

My kindergartener picked this book out from his school library, another instance of him bringing home a non-fiction book. He has been on a big non-fiction kick this school year; from September to April I think he has maybe brought a fiction storybook home 3 times and every other time it has been something non-fiction.
At any rate, he recently informed me he wants to be an EMT when he grows up, so I guess he brought this home to do research. It's a pretty cool book for a kid his age. He can't quite read it independently, but it works fine as a read aloud and he enjoyed the pages that asked him to look for specific things and the three pages with clear overlays that add dimension and a hidden element to some of the pictures.
If you have a kid that tends to catastrophize/worry this is probably not the best choice because it does feature a lot of rather thrilling rescues and it did put some concerns into my son's head that he wasn't aware of. "How do you break your leg skiing?!" he asked me as we read the mountain rescue page. But in general I think this was age-appropriate and good and my son seemed more excited about it than bothered.
