THis is one of my favorite books that I've written. Finally, after years of being hounded by colleagues and friends, my life story, at least to this date in 2019 has been written. Many thought I should call it 50 Shades of Purple ...

When it comes to Self-Help/Relationships books this one, When GOD Says NO, tops my list. Not only is it the revealing life journey of a woman I respect and admire, but it puts clarity around questions I feel many of us ask, man or woman. She tells of her life struggles starting from her childhood, early marriage, loss of two sons decades a part, financial losses, and health issues with years of recovery. Judith shares what she has learned and how she gives back to the rest of humanity. Her mastery of words and wisdom come forward as you read through her inner most thoughts and how she found the strength that is clearly evident today. I have cried and laughed reading her honesty. I believe you will find value in this work of love.

It is difficult to itemize why I am compelled to share my thoughts about this book. Part of it is the strength that Judith earned as she faced her adversity and found so many Yeses. One comment she makes was her view on heroes which came to light during some extremely sad times.

My heroes tend to be living people. I don’t know them all personally, but I do know that there is someone I know who knows someone else. And they can make a connection if I really want it to happen. After all, having heroes, men and women whom you admire for their strength, their vision their spunk, their whatever, doesn’t necessarily mean that you must be close friends with them.

I had to pause during my reading and reflect that many people who have touched my life are heroes in their own way. I was also realize I need to get past some of my own issues by ceasing to recall times regarding those who have injured or left me hanging, then celebrate those who have made positive, meaningful impacts on me and even humanity. I have crossed paths with marvelous people who have enriched my world and some didn’t even understand the impact they had on others. I hope you find this book as insightful as I did.

Sticking by your beliefs is a fundamental part of being human. Judith’s comment regarding her conviction is one you might consider when you stand up for yourself or for something.

I did—my attitude was, and is, if a problem isn’t addressed and is swept under the rug, nothing can get resolved

There is nothing to dislike about the book other than to want to share a hug with the author. You will likely be moved by many aspects of this book and find some solace because you will be able to relate some aspect of the Noes you have likely encountered in your life. Finding the good things, focusing on how to value yourself and others in this world, may alter or improve your path.

One day I plan to see the painting Judith was given as a gift by Nicole Shapiro.

None of us grow up planning how we will react to the Adversities standing in the way of our happiness.

We dream of finding perfect love.

No one ever thinks about those who might betray us on our life’s journey.

How can a parent begin to comprehend what it will cost us if we lose a child?

We work hard, never dreaming a sudden shift can take away everything, including our home.

Who can prepare for a sudden change in health that compromises everything?

As I began to listen to Dr. Judith Briles’ words in the Audible version of her book, “When God Says No,” I again began to journey through the memories of my life.

Misfortune Doesn’t Guarantee Complete Failure.

It’s extraordinary that this woman, who I have followed and adored, walked a path so parallel to my own.

How can one person survive so much loss and adversity in one lifetime and come back to inspire others to find their gifts and greatness?

We don’t just survive the hurdles life throws at us; we come out the other side stronger and wiser. Our faith and compassion grow beyond our understanding as we rise from every tragedy encountered on our journey.

It would be so easy to give up and admit defeat.

When you lose absolutely everything that defined the “Who” in you, it seems impossible to believe things could ever be normal again.

Determination and Faith

Dr. Briles shares with you a gripping overview of the heartbreaking trials she has faced in life. From the betrayal of her business associates to the deaths of two children, her resiliency in the face of life’s most challenging moments will give you the strength to rebound from your current hardships.

This book will show you how faith and unshakable determination can bring you through some of the hardest times in life. Allow yourself to grow in understanding and resolve to defy the adversity that shakes the very foundation of your life.

We can make it through every tragedy we face in life.

It takes courage and determination. Also, it takes faith.

The results are many times far more significant than you ever dreamed.

When God Says No – Revealing the Yes When Adversity and Loss are Present took my breath away.
I laughed and I cried along with the author, Dr. Judith Briles, as her life’s journey evolved. The birth of her children, an abusive marriage, a divorce, financial ruin and resurrection, the death of her son, every aspect of her will to persevere touched a chord in my heart.

This book is really about Yes. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and say Yes to the next opportunity that presents itself. You never know where that Yes will lead you. Have faith that there is a plan and a Yes is always lurking.

Judith never allowed herself to dwell in negativity, though she had every right to do so, given the obscene immoral people – after all, a company is made up of people and is only as good as they are – who wreaked such havoc in her life. Instead, with faith, she moved on and achieved something that few of us ever do: success and peace.
Along the way, she has helped innumerable people find their Yes. Encouraging, teaching, laughing and disciplining, she has learned life's hard lessons and helps others along their own path.

The pain of loss is always there. There is nothing we can do except to endure it, live through it and eventually realize that for every loss there is a gain, eventually, if we will just say yes to the yes. The pain does not get better, it gets further away. Far enough away that we can remember the good times, the funny times, the loving times.

What an amazing journey. Thank you for sharing, Judith.

The tragic loss of her nineteen-year-old son sets in motion a dramatic life change and untold grief. As the author struggles with reality she passes through additional personal, financial, and emotional challenges.

After much time passes, the author acknowledges her receipt of four gifts. The first of these is finding a renewal of purpose, the second gift involves a renewal of spirituality that had been absent in her life. Third, she pulls up from within a “little kid spirit” and a sense of humor. Finally, the author realizes that she had developed a sense of resilience to setbacks.

I particularly enjoyed her reflection that while pain is inevitable in everyone’s life, one does not need to permit oneself to be miserable. This book is an honest reflection and memoir. While it evokes pain and sorrow, it also promises hope for the future. Just the type of positive message needed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

If I ever get to the point where life completely overwhelms me, I hope I remember to re-read this book. Judith faced more physical, emotional, and financial traumas than and any four women. She has persevered on and continued to offer her coniderable gifts to the world.

I listened to the 2019 edition of When God Says No by Judith Briles. It is a well-written book. It gives an account of how Judith Briles dealt with hardships in her life: the death of two children, the breakdown of a marriage, the bankruptcy caused by a partner's embezzlement, and more. Instead of feeling that life and God were against her, Judith found that there is always another path to take, usually one that leads to something better. When God Says No is a must-read or listen-to for anyone who has experienced hardship in their life and has wondered asked the question, "why me?"
