This is such a lovely novel and one I feel beautifully captures Georgiana. It is Book 3 in Ms. Barr's 'Pride & Prejudice Continued' series. I suppose you could read this as a standalone, but I feel you would gain greater understanding and enjoyment by reading the books in order ( Book 1 'Caroline' and Book 2 'Catherine') as they all tie in together.
There is a wonderful mix of emotions throughout this novel. The humor had me chuckling, the tender moments are swoon-worthy and the sadness was heartbreaking.
As Georgiana makes her debut, she only has eyes for Maxwell Kerr, Fifth Duke of Adborough not realizing he has his heart set on her. As the fortune hunters circle, no one was expecting one would strike. As their journey to each other is advanced, an overheard conversation takes both down a path filled with doubts, recriminations and heartbreak. All I kept saying to myself was, 'Oh Max, why didn't you just ask her?' But pride goeth before the fall.
"Under any other circumstance her heart would have sung with joy over starting her new life among such beauty, but as it stood, she felt adrift, like an abandoned child's toy boat left to float upon a lake." (quote from the book)
Georgiana is glorious in her love and in her fury. Her growth throughout is believable and I just wanted to hug her. At the same time, I wanted to tear a strip off of Maxwell Kerr, but others did it for me. Clearly, I was invested in this novel.
"She lifted her chin with determination. He'd chosen wrong. No longer would she allow others to dictate her actions and pass judgement when she made errors. Today she took back her own life. Today she became her own woman." (quote from the book)
I highly recommend this whole series and hopefully, considering some of the hints within this book, we shall have Mary's story next!
I also want to say how much I love the cover of this book!

Good story about Georgiana finding love.
Georgiana’s dowry tempted Wickham to try an elopement for her money. Years later when she comes out, the money still draws society rats to her. Georgiana already loves someone, someone very similar to her brother. Will she have her own HEA?
Excellent story about Darcy, Lizzy and the Fitzwilliam clan banding together for the gentle and lovely Georgiana.
Recommended.

I have been aware of Sue Barr’s work since she released the first book in this series, Caroline. My curiosity was definitely aroused when she chose to continue Austen’s Pride and Prejudice story with the memorable side characters and didn’t hesitate to redeem Caroline Bingley and give her a chance at happiness in an unlikely place. Then it was Kitty who fell hard for a man who was not what he seemed. And, here we have Georgiana stepping out of the shadows of her past and become the current heroine.
Georgiana is recovered physically and emotionally from her youthful mistake with George Wickham, but now that she is on the cusp of her presentation and entrance into London society, she wonders if she is truly ready or if she will be fooled again. If only Max Kerr, Duke of Adborough, the kind gentleman who put her at ease and made her feel they belonged, felt the same way about her as she did for him. Their families are friendly and she knows they could be happy. Instead, she hears nothing from Max and now must face a London season of discovering the difference between those who would pursue her for her fortune. She has her family around her, but the danger still circles and, in the end, after a painful, winding road, can she let trust grow and forgiveness heal so she can find love with the right man.
Georgiana was a story that I read out of order and from which I still found great enjoyment. I had no trouble doing so because the early chapters caught the reader up on the two previous books and the news of the family. However, it is something of a series spoiler because it shares what happened with the earlier couples to a certain extent. So, if a reader likes to get all the surprises and story as it happens, then it is best to start at the beginning with Caroline.
As to the story, the first half was gently-paced, sweet, and rather predictable. Georgie was an adorable heroine and easy to like and wish well. She wants to be done with her past and have the love and friendship she sees in her brother’s marriage and those of her friends. She knows she can have that with Max, but is not certain he sees her the same way. Max’s perspective alternates with Georgiana’s so the reader does know what Max is thinking and it’s all going on swimmingly toward a rapid conclusion even if there are sharks in the water after Georgie’s fortune and match-making mamas intent on Max as a future son in law.
But, then, I was left goggling at my reading device. I knew there had to be something that gummed up the works since they were well on their way to Happily Ever After at the half-way point. But, holy misunderstandings, Batman! I thought for sure I was reading one of those dream-land alternate reality things that happen when people fall asleep and I was so confused by the radical turn of events. That makes two of us because poor Georgie was equally in the dark and it is only after some time has passed that Max’s actions – well, I wouldn’t say they make sense, per se because I really felt the man went off the rails—but I got an explanation. And, this forces a more emotional, harder-earned romance situation for the second half.
While, I can appreciate- and I do- that the book was not some fluffy no-conflict story that was pretty much over half way through and would have just dragged on too syrupy sweet to be endured, I also felt quite jarred by everyone rushing into high alt starting with Max and ending with Georgie’s relations. It felt out of character for several and took me out of the story a bit.
But, in the end, I loved the beautiful way this romance pair made efforts and built something stronger together as a result.
This was my first opportunity to read Sue Barr’s books. I enjoyed her writing style and her characters and the way she wrote a romance that was surrounded by family and friends. I definitely want to go back for the earlier books and would eagerly pick up future releases. I would recommend this book/series to those who enjoy sweet, heartwarming Austenesque sequels or stories about the secondary characters.

“Georgiana” is a standalone novel in the three-book “Pride & Prejudiced Continued” series from author Sue Barr. I am going to presume we are all familiar with Jane Austen’s masterpiece “Pride & Prejudice” and how Mr. Darcy saved his sister, Georgiana Darcy, from scandal when she nearly eloped with the manipulative, spendthrift George Wickham. Now married, Darcy and Elizabeth are ready to launch Georgiana out into the best society—but this young heiress’s limited (and unfortunate) experience with the opposite sex has left her anxious. However, when the Fifth Duke of Adborough, Maxwell Kerr, enters the picture and pays particular attention to her, she is at ease with this dear family friend. Might this handsome duke ever look at her as more than the girl he once knew and esteem her enough to court her?

Still when a young heiress is presented, all eyes are on her…and her thirty thousand pounds, attracting all kinds of fortune hunters. Incredulously, one such penniless peer absconds with her...

Rather than asking her to explain what exactly Wickham did to her, he hightails it back to London, leaving her alone at his country estate. What started as a “knight in shining armor rescuing the damsel in distress and they live happily-ever-after” story becomes pages of much strife, yearning, misunderstandings, and lovelorn letters. Can he ever come to accept his lot and live with such a wife, and how will she ever know what she has done to turn him away from her? And wait until Darcy and Elizabeth find out their sister has been abandoned so soon after she has wed! It’s a melodrama that will keep you turning pages to find that hard-earned happily-ever-after.
I liked this one. Maybe not as much as my favorite of the series, “Caroline”, but it’s definitely a good read!

In this P&P sequel it is time for Georgiana to come out and face society. Can she find a gentleman who will love her for herself and not her name and wealth. Obstacles will need to be overcome if she is to have her happy ending. What of Maxwell Kerr, Fifth Duke of Adborough who has loved Georgiana from afar, can he win her love and trust.
A very enjoyable and well-written story, the characters are so lovable.

This was a sad story with a happy ending. Georgina married the man of her dreams, but an overheard conversation between Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam caused her husband to turn their marriage into a living nightmare. Instead of a honeymoon he left Georgina alone at his estate for three months. It took seven more months before they repaired their marriage. The Duke's entire family disowned him and stopped talking to him because of his behavior towards Georgina. After carrying Elizabeth home after she fell while heavily pregnant, both sides of the family began to tolerate him again. Although what the Duke did was wrong, Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam were obligated to tell him the truth about what happened in Ramsgate, they are also guilty.
