The landscape of Odiorne Point has seen centuries of
change from the courageous footsteps of the first settlers at "Pennaway" to the firing of guns at Fort Dearborn. Behind the breathtaking beauty of the area lie secrets of natural and cultural history hidden deep in the sands of time. Available for the first time in book form, Footprints in Time is based on a walking tour popular at Odiorne Point State Park since 1988. Whether you are relaxing at home or rambling along the Park's winding trails, this oceanside walking guide will lead you through the fascinating stories of the "Birthplace of New Hampshire."
One of my many current projects is reading the backlog of books I have...maybe 500? Anyway, I bought this book at the Star Island Bookshop years ago. Yes, I do remember the books I bought there, except if they were gifts and even if they don't have that red sticker which used to indicate they've been paid for. This was a complete and utter delight. It focuses on the layers of Odiorne Point in New Hampshire. When the children were young, several times we visited the Seacoast Science Center there and wandered the grounds. I happily call one particular visit when my mother accompanied us. She and her husband, Peter, camped at Shel Al Campground in Hampton all summer. This book gave me a much greater appretiation of the history and the whole park. It was written clearly and interestingly. I felt as if I were accompanying the auhtors on a grand tour and actually meeting former inhabitants. Thank you so much!
