Three stories about an unusual and mischievous creature that lives in the woods near a summer camp and whose companions are the Range Ranger and a witch.
Where do I begin….I have reread this book every year for the last 15 years of my life. I always find myself yearning to retreat to a world of folly, fun and whimsy. The Tajar is a formative and creative piece of literature, whose magic carries me through the years. I would go as far as to say that this creature and all of the friends he encounters are up there with some great American heroes. You’re never too old dance in the moonlight or take death-defying life leaps through the branches. I find my teacups practically jumping out the cupboard when I read this. Still don’t know what “tucks” are, but that’s okay. One day I may forget to forget but for now, I’ll always count on him and the ranger to look out for me ❤️.

This was one of my favorite books from my childhood days at summer camp; also once I became a camp counselor I found a whole new appreciation for it. Tajar is camp tradition. It is a book full of short stories that showcase Tajar, a mythical & magical creature, and his many adventures.
We acted out Tajer tales in just about every camp I worked at and handed out Tajer tales of yarn and safety pins once the kids would give the sacred answer to the question "Are you a Tajer?" Of course the answer is "You bet your strip-ed tie I are".
