The gods have gotten bored, and humanity is the answer.
Charles earns the ultimate surprise one morning when he awakens to discover the world has ended, or rather the gods of old were bored and decided to redesign how it worked. Everyone else got a nice little message that showed up their vision, everyone else woke up when the gods decided to make their decision known. Only Charles gets cursed by the gods, and only Charles gets a visit from one as well.
The Game of the Gods has begun and the monsters of old are returning to our world, and all it took was the death of half the world's population and counting.
This is a Box Set that contains the first two books in 'The Game of Gods' series.

I was born in a little town situated somewhere in Ohio and raised in an even smaller town some place in Colorado. I attended University for a time, where I discovered that while I enjoyed Electrical Engineering and Computer Science my true passion lay in writing. I live primarily in Colorado but have been known to move around as the need arises. When not writing, I enjoy riding motorcycles, reading anything I can get my hands on, and anime.
This was a different take on the "earth being turned into a D&D Game". Instead of the usual aliens, this time it's Gods of Ole'. Although I don't know why Gods would be playing traditional tabletop games. They would have made golems to duke it out in some pocket dimension, in my opinion.
I don't think the author could keep the protagonist's personality straight near the end. So many things I could mention that were off and didn't meld fully with the story, but there is just too much.
I likes that the protagonist didn't throw himself in front of bullets for the strangers, that somehow changed near the end? I can't even articulate my thoughts properly. This author's attempt at the "world turned into a game" was a "meh" for me.
I won't be reading the sequels, nor the books that share a character with this novel.
There were certain things that weren't fully consistent to me, I just can't be bothered sorting them out.
Awesome premise but Rough characters follow aimless plots
The main characters all have some crippling sociopathy in lieu of being able to communicate or emote or interact with the world around them and it just comes across as an excuse for the author to provide them not to act on random plot details, rather than intentionally crafting a path for them. Still worth finishing but it needs massive story boarding to improve.
So, while you have the standard apocalypse litrpg scenario, and a decent story to go with it, the author lacks significantly in world and combat description and detail. It falls flat, but could definitely be good. If food, it’d be fast food you’d gotten tired of eating.
Felt the pace of the story was a little uneven until they reached settlement phase. From that point I really enjoyed it. I found the character development to be a strength of the books.
I found the authors understanding of basic concepts frustrating, there were too many flaws in the story. The wall for example around settlement why were defenders fighting outside it.
The best writing I've read in a while this story is absolutely beautifully written!! Superb isn't high enough the author did a excellent job telling a end to the world story can't get better than This😄
Like a lot of books in this genre in serious need of an editor. The story is intriguing the characters interesting. Some of the emotions are hard to empathize with.
This was a great book with all sorts of normal people as Characters, and of course chose to read it hearing about the husky companion! Highly recommended!
DNF76%. The protagonist was a misanthrope with autistic and sociopathic traits. I.E. he was a shithead. I pity the poor dog, the most human character in the book, that tried to take care of him.
