Donald Watson was an English writer, broadcaster, teacher and minister. He was born on 18th March 1946 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and educated at Cambridge University. He took a first degree in Modern Languages and followed with a doctorate in Linguistics. During his early years he showed great skill as a musician, but he followed his path in Language and Linguistics by teaching and setting up schools to teach English as a Foreign language in many different countries. He wrote several textbooks, teaching manuals and theoretical books on the use of English language, including the Linguaphone Teaching English series, and worked on translations. He kept a strong interest in classical Music, writing concert reviews.
In later life Donald Watson developed a keener interest in spiritual matters, running and teaching courses on meditation, the kabbala and healing for various colleges. He compiled and wrote a comprehensive overview of spiritual thinkers, movements, techniques and disciplines throughout history and across cultures, as a reference work. He then split it to produce two informative encyclopedic dictionaries about the "Mind, Body and Spirit" area, which were written from an academic point of view but aimed at a general reader. The author Colin Wilson called the first, "The best work of its kind that has so far been produced."
After this he trained to become an Interfaith minister, and devoted most of his time to officiating at services, plus his mentoring and teaching work in this area. Donald Watson died on 18th May 2015. He is greatly missed by many people.
