Discover the lives of amazing Hispanic women who achieved incredible things and made history.
Mama Tingo was born on November 8, 1921 in the Dominican Republic. She was the leader of a group of farmers whose lands wanted to be taken from them. The inspiring story of this courageous peasant woman who didn't know how to read and write is meant to inspire children to be their own brave selves.
Raynelda spends her free time thinking (and drafting) about books to write. As a librarian, her work with children inspired her to write about the accomplishments of Hispanic women in history; She hopes her books inspire young readers to follow their passions and never take ‘no’ for an answer.
I love this book so much! I grew up listening to tales of Mamá Tingó, but seeing her story told with such beauty and love... wow! So inspiring! Can't wait to include her in our International Women's day celebration!
I always love to read books about strong women throughout history and I am so glad I got to read this short but educational book about Mama Tingo. The illustrations were wonderful. Mama Tingo lived in the Dominican Republic and stood up for not only her family but farmers everywhere that were being run off the land. This book touches briefly into her life and the changes her death brought. I definitely recommend this book.
