I'm a loyal member of the Demented Sons MC. My priorities were my club and my family. Add in one sick bastard trying to pick us off and I sure as hell didn’t need relationship complications.
Enter one hot waitress.
A chance meeting. One wild night. By morning, I was gone. Maybe I'd used her, but she'd utterly ruined me.
Brothers dropping like flies, adrenaline in my veins, she would've been a dangerous distraction - one I couldn't afford.
At the worst possible moment, I made her a reckless promise. A promise I wouldn't keep - because I'm no saint.
She was already mine. Too bad it literally took a hurricane to make me see it.
H rating: 3/5 - Jax. All of his reasonings were incredibly fucked up when he approached Avery. I CANNOT get over that. More in thoughts.
h rating:3.5/5 - Avery. I respected her up until she met Raiven. I loved how hard she attempted to do well for her baby before he showed up, but that is all. More in thoughts.
Drama:4/5 - Bad guys again, and weird infatuations.
Thoughts: Not very happy with the ending. With the characters...ugh. I'll go by my top three issues though. 1. Jax- He fucked up by going after Avery because of the resemblance, yes many guys do that, but it was still such a shitty thing to do. I also hated how defensive and dickish he was towards her when he did finally find out. Moving her in was noble but such a frickin dumb move on his part, when he still was only attracted to her because of the Raiven resemblance. I KNOW that he said he was always imagining Avery NOT Raiven..but come on. He didn't even want her to meet his biker family. Just no. I never felt like he deserved her. He claimed he loved her and it was always her, but he fucked her while she was dressed as Raiven. WTF? I just never felt like he genuinely LOVED her. Cared..sure. Had he not be smacked up the head by his P & VP he wouldn't have even shown up to the delivery. He did NOT want to be there. He didn't care to get to know her the two weeks in between he found out and she gave birth. If that didn't scream his lack of care not sure what else could. Whatever..onto my next issue.
2. Avery. Spineless and in no way naive but maybe just dumb? I hate being mean to any women because women supporting women is real for me...even in fictional characters. Yes. I get that invested. I really liked her up until he showed up to the delivery. She gave in to his every demand and whim. She then went and killed any lingering like for her when she met Raiven and understood the "little blackbird" comment. She still wanted him knowing he wanted his sister in law. Not knowing if they did do anything she still messed around and wanted him. Where is the self respect there? She claimed to be looking for apartments but really I never remember her actually doing that. She was awesome with her kid, yes, really happy that she did step up and be there for him, but at the same time, how do you not mention that creepy guy who came to your door?! The shock of Raiven I get but come onnnn!!! Then the dressing up as her after discovering that he had been lusting after her was just so fucking dumb! WHY!?!!!! To get him to notice you? Is that really you though???! UGH! Typing this is pissing me off. Next.
3. The ending. I honestly am seriously disappointed with the ending. How do we go from running from the building with explosives in it. With the bad guy(s?) shooting at anyone trying to leave, to a mere few pages later finding out that the bad guy was a rogue biker who somehow ended up inside the building and dies there...? That's it???? He's dead and that is it. All of the drama we had from previous books leading up to this book, and he dies in an explosion and was only discovered who he was after he's dead..talk about letdown y'all.
I think this is the only review I have ever left that is full of what feels like ranting, but in all honesty is disappointment. In this book, in this series, in the author. I hate saying that too because I actually have enjoyed many of her other books..this one just let me down. Hard. I am onto her Band series..I am hoping to be happier there than how I am ending this series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is Gunny's, AKA Jaxon and Avery's book. A lot goes on in this one... there's a short novella next and hopefully there will be more because it doesn't seem that everything will be wrapped up in a short book but who knows?
As a refresher Gunny is the one who is brother to Raivens old man and had a crush on her. He also works on a oil rig out in the ocean where a hurricane is headed for.
He had a one night stand with someone who resembled Raiven and didn't see her again for almost nine months. Let's just say they didn't get along real good then.
There's plenty of hot bikers, babies and bullets and don't forget the bad guys and bombs. Time to see what's going to happen in the next book.....
This series just gets better and better. It's so intense and full of grit. I've been in love with these bikers and their ladies since book 1. I've waited impatiently, patient to get Gunny's story and could not have picked a better match then Avery. The surprises blew me away in this one. Read this series!
I thought this would be loaded with drama and angst… I love when the H is hung up on another woman… but… sadly this didn’t pack a punch. I didn’t realize that the “OW” was actually the h from book one who is happily married to his bro, so neither is actively pursuing the other… and where is the fun in that??!! I much prefer it when the optional love interest is an active part of the story.
In a nutshell, Gunny/Jaxon caught feelings for Raiven in book 1 (before she hooked up with the bro) while he was kidnapped. After they ended up together, he stepped back and started working on an oil rig to avoid them. He meets Avery at a diner and has a ONS because she’s a dead ringer for Raiven. He returns to work and avoids the diner for months until they run into each other again.
Bottom Line- I kept waiting for this to pick up, but it never did. There was no action, drama, romance, or longing… I was bored.
If you did like this Betraying Her/ Breaking Her by Marie Jordan has a similar plot with the H hung up on his sister’s girl and seeks a look-alike h.
I did enjoy finally getting Gunny, but hated 86% of the book all the comparisons to Raiven. We get he was obsessed, oddly, with his brothers wife, but enough was enough. Overall, this was good tho. I enjoyed all the books in this series.
Jaxon and Avery will have you melting with each turn of the page. This club holds tight to their family no matter what the circumstances may be. Avery deserved someone to love her unconditionally and with the passion of Jaxon. And he deserves no less. This story will blow you away.
Finally getting Lock’s brother! Gunny is Lock’s actual blood brother, and has found himself needing to distance himself from his family because of the feelings he developed for Lock’s wife Raiven while he was imprisoned. Unable to deal with the feelings, he keeps himself away most of the time through his job, and one day before he ships out again, meets Raiven’s twin at a diner and has a one-night stand with her. Avery has been on the straight and narrow, trying to work towards a career and finishing school, and in one moment of weakness she sleeps with Gunny, and months later finds out he’s left a part of himself with her. Not knowing who he really was and no way to reach him, she gets increasingly frustrated until he walks into the diner again almost nine months later! Taking responsibility, Gunny immediately starts to take care of Avery and their child, and as they spend time together and get to know each other, the same feelings from when they met spark again. When the same person the MC has been trying to hunt resurfaces and involves Avery before Gunny is able to lock down his feelings, but it might be too late with Avery’s safety in question. Another fantastically great book from Kristine and I can’t wait for the next book – can’t get enough! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I was so emotional reading this book. I couldn’t wait to read Gunny’s story because I LOVED him in the first book. (This review will contain spoilers)..... I was shocked that approximately 2 years after the first book happened that he was still so in love with Raiven (his brother’s wife— unrequited by the way- she doesn’t know his feelings) that he couldn’t function around her and practically had to move away. He has a one night stand with Avery because she looks like Raiven. She gets pregnant they run into each other when she’s nine months along. Gunny was such a sweetheart in the first book and he’s down right awful to Avery when she tells him. He of course doesn’t believe it’s his baby. Anyway.... his brothers kind of force him to man up because she ends up in labor at the hospital alone. He goes there reluctantly—he doesn’t really want any to do with her or the baby. When he sees the baby, he realizes immediately that it’s his and he immediately falls in love with his son. It was a beautiful moment. So he does everything he can to provide for his baby which was great including insisting that they move in with him because Avery basically had nothing.
His blatant indifference towards Avery for most of the book was heartbreaking though. Especially all the while harboring feelings for his brothers wife. He slowly starts to realize he’s getting over that though. He still acts cold and indifferent towards Avery even though he knows he feels something for her. He constantly sends her mixed signals. That part was frustrating. I wanted to cry for her because no one has ever loved her and she definitely has feelings for Gunny. She handled it really well though.
Finally.... about almost 80% into the book, Gunny comes to his senses and when they get together it was probably one of the best sex scenes that I’ve read. It was intense and made all the tension in the book almost worth it. The ending was pretty amazing too.
I have to say everyone’s reaction to seeing Raiven and Avery together and realizing why Gunny initially hooked up with Avery was kind of interesting. There was no hiding it. When Lock (Raiven’s husband and Gunnys’s brother) confronted Gunny about it—it was really well done and settled that whole issue.
So I do recommend this book, even though I felt so sad for Avery through most of it. She got her HEA and that made me happy.
Without reading the original Demented Sons books, I've already binged the four books in this spin off series.
This fourth installment was not as good as the first two books. It has a plot device that is hard to do well, IMO, which is the "the pining hero." I don't like it when either the hero or heroine pines, but especially when the hero does it---for too long. Add the hero pining after his brother's wife, that longing having started before she became "wifey," and before she officially got with his brother, notwithstanding, is all enough for the love story between him and the actual love interest to be screwed! Oh and add accidental pregnancy (which starts the story and drives the plot) and the heroine looking like his brother's wife too... It's all kinds of souring the HEA.
The hero steps up to provide for both heroine and baby, but does he redeem himself (cuz he really is for shit, for about the first 30%)?
The answer is "no," not really, not enough for me. Though, I give kudos for the believable, resulting attraction the grows between these two after details have been ironed out and they're living for their shared child in close proximity.
The club life involves itself in the plot and its looming conflict spills in For me, there needed to be a more monumental shift before the head-hitting third act, such as a better epiphany or a turning point of definite emotional changing. Jaxon (Gunny) is one sexy man. He is battling inside about his feelings about his brother Lock’s woman. He decides to take a job on a drilling rig to get away from Lock and his family as well as his MC brothers. On a night before he has to leave town to go back out on the rig, he sees a woman that looks a lot like Raiven, Lock’s woman. He decides to take her home and spend one night with her, little does he know that one night will change his whole life, but he won’t know it until after several months.
Avery is trying to make ends meet while working in a diner as well as going to school to study for her Masters in Sociology. She is struggling to make it, but she’s strong and determined. She grew up the system and after aging out of the system, she joined the Air Force. She’s a survivor and after her one night with Gunny, her life will change drastically and for the better.
I loved this story. The struggle that Gunny goes through to keep his feelings secret and in check, is a pure show of strength and leads him to the woman who brings him to his knees. Even though Avery is a strong woman, her strength is doubled when she is taken into the Demented Sons family and realizes that she has friends who care about her and will do anything for them. I give this story a 5-star review and now need to go back and read more of the series since this was my first read of the Demented Sons. These men are sexy, loyal to their family and friends and fun to read. If you like MC, ex-military, and sexy men with strong, sassy women, then you really need to one-click Jax and Jokers, by Kristine Allen. This will not be my last read of Ms. Allen’s work. She knows how to weave story of love, strength, suspense, danger, and sexiness.
I have been waiting for Gunnys story since Locks book came out.....and believe me it was worth the wait. Gunny has been wrestling with some inner demons that have made him want to not only to put distance between him and his club brothers but his blood brother Lock. Everyone notices that Gunny has been acting strange but not exactly sure why. He has a steamy 1 night stand with Avery to help keep him distracted...but his actions that night come back to slap him in the face. I want to say so much...because this book is SO good...but I don't want to give any spoilers away 😥. What I can say is that being from south TX I appreciate and even get excited when I see references to things like HEB, Whataburger, Corpus, The Valley..I just think it's so cool to have some acknowledgement to my hometown and other smaller towns that usually don't get any recognition. Also love that Kristine gives these characters jobs that you might not see in other books...offshore rigger...ER nurse...paramedic..social worker. I PRAY there will be a continuation to this series...I really want Straight to get a book and especially Mattie/Clay. I just love everything Kristine Allen writes.
This was a good story. I did kinda wish the horse breeding family would have a cutting , roping, or something horse related biker. Instead he's an oil rig .worker. Its a little disconcerting the lack of actual progress when they keep getting attacked. The nurse biker sure gets a workout. I think the next story it maybe fun if the female is a hacker and she's either a street racer car or motorcycle or a theif... This story was full of action and adventure from the wild one night stand to the surprise I am pregnant due this week. Then the father realizing he really likes the girl. But when he goes to work on the rig a hurricane threatens but he gets injured... Then there are multiple attacks from the crazy guy wanting revenge, from blowing up a house killing a dog, A sister gets raped, motorcycles get damaged, one of the guys gets side swiped , attempted to run off road.... The tension is great for the finale kidnapping, assault, bombing, gun fight, gun shot.... It is a good ending. The one piece where she finds out her dad is good, but was the woman her biker saw at the bar her or someone else... They ever say.
I'm so glad that we got Gunny's story. From the moment I read of him in Lock's book, I was drawn to him and wanted to get more of him. He was such a good brother to Lock and a loving uncle to Presley that I just knew he'd possible be a great dad given the opportunity. In the beginning of the book we learn of Gunny's crush on Raiven who happens to be his brothers olé lady. He never intended to have feelings for her but when the whole ordeal with Lock being taken he kind of lost it and was drawn to her. He meets Avery at the local diner and is stunned to see how mich she resembles Raiven. So much so that he decides to hook up with her In hopes of getting over his feelings for his brothers wife. But things don't go as planned. And before they know it their lives are forever interconnected. So much happens with the club still being attačķed by Viper, Deacon, and Rebound. Thankfully Gunny and Avery realize that they are meant for one another and they get their well-deserved HEA. Can't wait to see what happens next. I accidentally started reading the Texas chapter before the Iowa one so I'm going to go back and read that one now.
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! Gunny and Avery's story will have you go from one extreme to the other emotionally. You will run the gamut with all the feels. Gunny is all over the place when he goes to Texas. There was such a HUGE mess when Lock, Gunnys brother, was taken and Gunny was left to look out for Raiven, Locks girl. They didn't know if Lock was dead or alive. Gunny developed feelings for Raiven but he only THOUGHT he knew what love was. He got knocked right on his a** when he met Avery. What was supposed to be a one night stand turned into so much more than either of them bargained for. Gunny stayed away from Avery after their one night only to go back to the cafe to see her and he gets the shock of his life. All he*l breaks loose when the past comes back to haunt the Demented Sons and in the wake of it all the women in the club are caught up in it. This book will have you reeling from beginning to end and won't let up until the very last word.
Gunny is Lock's brother and has been harboring his feelings for Lock's wife Raiven close to his chest. He didn't mean to fall for her but he did and the way he is dealing with it is to stay away even though it causes confusion for his family. One night though he meets waitress and look alike to Raiven, Avery. It is a one night stand but what Gunny doesn't realize is that one encounter changes everything for Avery. Gunny returns though and wants answers but the way he goes about it causes Avery to question everything. Can Gunny prove to Avery it is her he sees and wants?
This was a heart strings book. You feel for Gunny but at the same time Gunny is wrapped up in his head and can't see what is right in front of him. I felt for Avery she is a girl trying to do her best with her current situation and is scrambling to do better. I thought this was wonderful, one of the best in series.
I liked this addition to the Demented Sons series. I don't know about anyone else, but 2 days after having a baby I was not ready to go to a cookout. Between soreness, nursing, and having to keep a bra on, and wearing loose cloths, yeah, no. Also, I was told not to drive for a couple of weeks.. Lastly, it is recommended to keep your child in the same room as parents until they are about a year old. When I am reading and stuff doesn't add up it drives me crazy. Back to the book, Gunny's story was a long time coming. It wrapped up 2 different club storylines, Iowa and Texas. Avery was a great love interest. I was sad that no one asked about her time in the military, but always talked about the mens. All in all, a good read.
I literally could not put this book down, and read it in one sitting. I have been waiting for Gunny's book for some time and I knew it would be epic, but even I didn't realize just how epic it would be. Kristine Allen is an excellent writer, so it goes without saying that the book was very well written. Great story line and a believable timeline. I went through so many emotions throughout this book, from wanting to throw my kindle to crying. Yes crying!!! And I am not a crier, especially when it comes to books. But Kristine Allen had me crying twice in one book!! Jax and Joker is a must read. This whole series is a must read. Do yourself a favor and grab your copy today!
There is a lot of things going on in this book. You feel for Avery she is struggling to support herself and going to school and pregnant. Gotta feel for Jax and don't blame him for his mistrust in the beginning when he she tells him about the baby. Then as things go on I just wanted to shake him for being so stubborn...without spoiling the plott all I can tell you hang on for the ride, I couldn't out the book down. I got mad, scared holding my breath and actually cried a couple of times from grief and happy tears. Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did. I definitely will be reading more of her books
Where can I find my own Jaxson?! This was my first installment of the Demented Sons but I will definitely be going back and reading the rest. It would have definitely been a plus to know the backstory a little more but it did not hinder my enjoyment of this story one bit. There was just enough suspense and excitement to keep it interesting but it didn't overwhelm, it allowed the love story to be the main focus. I was drawn in from the very beginning and hooked till the end! Voluntary review of an ARC
I was hooked right at the beginning of the book. I was immediately drawn to Gunny and Avery. Gunny is all over the place with his feelings that it sometimes gets in the way with his relationship with his brother and Avery. So much trouble is brewing and he an Avery build on their relationship. I really enjoyed the secondary characters, because they become part of the story instead of just being filler for the book. A lot of action and suspense. I definitely plan to read this book again.
This is the first book in The Demented Sons Texas series I’ve read and i absolutely loved it. What a fantastic book. From start to finish the flow of the story was gripping exciting and captivating. An MC that loves, protects and fights to keep there families safe. I didn’t miss anything from not reading the other books in the series but will be reading them because they are so fantastic. 5 STARS.
A one night stand, instant attraction, gets you a bun in the oven, fast forward 9 months, and baby makes three. With this book as with all the others in the series you get the brotherhood but also the rest of the MC family, you also get that evil bastard trying to kill them off, accidents a plenty, action, intrigue, enough twists and turns to keep your interest as well as romance and an HEA, well worth your time to read.
The conclusion of this chapter left me a little sad, why? Cause I was hoping I'd see more of the guys in the club have a book also but I get it this is where it has to end. At first I didn't know what I would feel when I read Gunny's book knowing his feelings but as I keep reading, i realized it was just him mourning. In this book you will get heart pounding action, you will have OMG moments, you will blush and get hot but most of all you will fall in love with these characters.
We finally get Gunny’s book!!! I was completely unsure how this book would finish after that beginning. I couldn’t have predicted any of it which makes me so happy as a reader. Avery is amazing - her heart is so big and kind, I just love her. On more than one occasion, you’ll want to throttle Gunny but I think he makes up for it in the end. Loved all the twists and turns this one makes. Fantastic read!
Loved this book! Gunny is an amazing guy that loves his family but going through some issues! This is a I didnt know I had a baby with her book! You must read this book if you love mc books! It is a standalone book but I would recommend reading all of the books in the series to understand everything! Once again Kristine Allen killed this book and her series!
Really like author but really did not like Jax nor his obsession with Raiven which added to his creepy demeanor liked Avery but thought she should have asserted that she deserves better would have liked it better if she ended up with Truth and told Jax to take a hike and they co-parent Tristen
The is a good story lots of Mystery and Action plus Hot hot Scenes I just really couldn't get into this story like the others for some reason. I'll always love all the sexy Men from Demented Sons Mc motorcycle Club! I need a book with Maddie and Cade please please please
Absolutely loved Gunny and Avery's story. It'll take you on a rollercoaster of a ride. There's so much emotion in the storyline you can't help but feel for these two. The suspense in some places of this book will have you on edge. You'll be captivated from that first page till the end. Definitely recommend reading this one.
Jax and Avery meet and share one night. Months later he returns and Avery is about to pop out their baby. Jax comes to understand a lot. Avery finds her perfect fellow.
This story begins with a lot of action and it continues throughout the story. Jax and Avery's romance is hot, romantic and perfect. Loved this story!
