Three full-length time travel novels. What would you do, if you could do it all again?
The Empathetic Life of Rebecca Wright - Rebecca thinks she has it all, but in reality, she has nothing, because she is empty inside. How many lives will it take for Rebecca to learn to be truly human?
The Successful Life of Jack Rybicki - Jack is successful in so many ways - he is rich, a famous actor, and has beautiful women at his beck and call - but he still feels unfulfilled. It will take more than one lifetime for him to realize what makes a successful life.
The Many Short Lives of Charles Waters - Charles learns he only has 30 days to live, but at the end of that short period of time, he dies and opens his eyes, only to hear once again that he only has 30 days to live. How many lives will it take Charles to learn how to live?
I'm not sure how I feel about a series that blatantly copies a novel and then proceeds to acknowledge the copied work but with a vague dismissal. It reminded me of the distaste when Ernest Cline ripped off The Last Star Fighter and proceeded to acknowledge the plot of Armada was the same... except with a helluva lot less cringe. Shawn Inmon is a better writer than Ernest Cline, simply as he's not nearly as grating after Cline with two novels with the same concept. The last story in this is patience-testing and somewhat rewarding but is an exceptionally slow burn. The other two are stronger simply for the characters behaving a bit more believably.
I'm glad the series has come to some close as the novelty was wearing thin, especially listening to these in rapid succession. Plus, there are a few quirks I was growing tired of, as even someone such as myself with only the most passing interest in "stonks" would have more than enough knowledge to easily navigate the financial sector on a reboot, be it wunderkind of my childhood (Walmart, Apple, Microsoft, Gap, Circuit City, Intel) the IPO craze of the 90s with forgotten wonders (Pets.com, Ubid, etc. and still living Redhat, Ebay) or the current-gen technocracy (Apple post-Jobsian revival, Google, Facebook, Twitter, AMD) and entering the world of Seed Accelerators, Angel Investors and Venture capital. It'd be too easy to become part of the PayPal mafia if you cared even a little about technology and yet every character seemed financially incapacitated. Money is hardly the key to happiness but it'd been nice at least once to see a character who was financially semi-competent even after a single life.
Defintely worth the read. I believe I have read all t5he books in the series over the past year. The 5 star rating is really for the series. I enjoyed some of the books more than others. Some of the individual books may have gotten only three stars from me! The Michael Hollister book (2nd) and the final book (Charles Waters) are the most memorable and maybe deserving of the 5 stars. It is not critical the books be read in order. But I suggest reading the first two first. Then continue as they appeal to you. It is worth mentioning that even though these may be packaged in groups, each is a legitimate stand-alone medium length novel.
I loved each story in this box set - so much! I do say that about every book in the Middle Falls series, I know, yet it continues to be true. It amazes me how Mr. Inmon is able to create such wonderful, unique, complex characters. I never fail to get hooked into them and their stories with each new book in the series. I also truly love how the characters and plots intersect from novel to novel. As always, I'm greatly looking forward to reading the next installment in the world of Middle Falls!
I have truly loved this series. The characters feel so real. As fanciful as the plot is, it feels so possible, but then, I'm a dreamer too. I wish to meet more characters and that this story would never end. It is so far beyond wonderful that no adjective exists to describe how I feel after spending my last few days reading these 12 books. I feel so lucky that this author included them with Kindle Unlimited. They are well worth paying for.
I’m not a fan of the whole Universal Life Center insertion in the series. Maybe I missed something but it’s not really explained on why and how it exists in Middle Falls. Other than that, Charles having over 100 relived lives is total loco. The concept of the cafe at the end was questionable to me. Overall, seeing Charles evolve out of his normal shell was inspiring. Loved the blossomed friendship of the three: Charles, Moondog and Sarah.
I love these stories- each one has its own flavor and idiosyncratic characters. I’ve read them all and they are a joy to me! Dying and coming back and learning a little each time - wouldn’t we all like to do that?! I hope Mr Inman doesn’t stop writing them- it makes me smile with anticipation every time I discover another one’s out!
I didn’t expect to like these stories, but I got hooked fast and read all the books in 4 days. These are simple time travel love stories; Romantic, paternal, maternal, fraternal, etc. Strong characters. Strong story lines and some great meaningful messages to boot. Easy reads. Heart warming. Highly recommended.
I sit here in awe of what I’ve just read. Books 10-12 of the Middle Falls Time Travel series was so satisfying and emotionally uplifting that I find myself at a loss for words. No author has ever affected me as he has. He’s more than a storyteller. It is such a pleasure to read any of his books. Enjoy!!!
Just terrific, relatable, engaging characters. They're not even always lovable (at least initially) but I can always find aspects of myself in the protagonist and, as they find ways to become better, they make me want to be better. What a great way to tell stories. Thank you, Shawn.
Sometimes it's nice to read stories with happy endings. And while I really don't call these times travel stories, more like extended groundhog day sequences, they are easy to read and leave you feeling good. The 12th book actually brought a tear to my eye!
I first thought this was not as good as the previous segments. I stopped reading several times. However, I finally liked it the best. This author is SO creative. This series is unlike anything I’ve ever read.
These stories continue to bring a unique perspective and outlook on life and death. Thank you Shawn for getting me through a very difficult time in my life! I can't wait to begin my next read.
There are not enough words to describe how absolutely deep and meaningful each of Shawn's books are. He has the gift to make them feel so real that I feel like sad when the book is finished. My feeling now is his books are more SOUL journey than time travel.
I enjoyed all of the "loop" characters , their stories and how they intertwined. Of course from book one I continued to look for mention of those first characters . Hard to get anything else done once I started this series.
