Shattered to Restored: The Journey of a Mom and a Gay Son A Story of Love and Grace

Rate this book
"Mom, I'm gay!" My son's words changed the course of a mother's journey from a conservative, dogmatic Christian to a progressive thinker and advocate for loving, supporting, and working with the LGBTQ community.
.As the journey unfolds, churches are encouraged to rethink policies that keep gay and lesbian people away from the church. Can one pastor's wife in a small town in Louisiana make a difference? Through the ups and downs this mother is determined to become involved in the world of her gay son. Included are stories from gay and lesbians describing their individual journeys. It is time to unite and welcome all people, regardless of differences.
Read a few excerpts from the book
"I prayed every night that God would fix me. I prayed He would ease my confusion and show me His way. I knew if this secret got out, I’d surely have a lot of explaining to do to my church, school and family. What would I say to them, though? I didn’t choose this, that’s for sure. What good Christian who loves the Lord and leads worship for children and youth would choose to be gay? God wouldn’t make anyone this way; He doesn’t mess up. Yet here I was. A Christian. A child of God. A lesbian"
."After I came out every time I entered the room, my parents would cry.  My father left for work crying every day and returned home from work crying.  Mom would ask, “What did I do wrong?”
" I wasn’t allowed to attend my own church or school."
"I was taught that lying was a sin and that homosexuality was a sin. I thought that I was a sinner and doomed to Hell because I was gay, and I was lying about it. I was too scared to tell anyone about it. Once I began High School, I began drinking alcohol. This was the only way I could cope with the fact that I was gay. "

One of my friend's mom's wrote this about her experience as a mother to a gay son. It needs a good edit, but it's adorable and really sweet that she wrote this in an attempt to reach others about embracing the LGBTQ community.

Great message

This book had a great message. With some better editing, it would have been even better. That was a bit of a distraction, putting up with missing words, confusing sentence structure, redundant passages, etc.
With that said, this is a critical idea whose time has come; Christ followers need to step up, step out, and get busy loving all of God’s children. Period.
