"Sold!" bellowed the auctioneerAnd standing alone on the auction block, Peri shivered at the words. For only she knew she was not a slave but a Frenchwoman, noble born, whom the hand of fate had dealt a cruel blow.Slowly she turned to face the English aristocrat who had bought her. It was said that such men bought slave girls for one of two reasons - as either workers...or mistresses. One glance at the man told Peri which fate awaited her...and she vowed with all the strength of her being that he would never have his way!

I was going to give this NO stars, but I had to give it 1 star so I could write a review. This was a very distasteful topic (slavery). The attitude of the main characters I guess reflected their time. I wonder who liked this book when it came out in 1981. I read two chapters and had to jump to end to see how it ended.
