Following the pattern of the preceding book ‘The tidy guide to writing a novel,’  this book follows a clear, organised method to self editing your novel. This method is divided into headings and sub headings in a chronological order so that the reader may follow this step-by-step guide as they progress. This prevents the reader from getting lost in a theoretical pile and helps in better execution of the information.
This book helps the reader get acquainted with the different obstacles one has to face while editing and the practices that help overcome these hindrances. The author further addresses each heading/ element of editing separately, providing insight on the questions we should ask ourselves while editing and the loopholes we must avoid. The author also mentions snags, overused words and styles one must abstain from.

Tidy and Helpful

I found “The Tidy Guide to Self-Editing Your Novel” to be a helpful resource to help work through the never-ending process of editing my novel. I’ve been approaching the job with a circular routine that sometimes drives me crazy. It seems that I can never go through a chapter without making changes. I need to finish the job, and l like the approach Rachel has presented. It makes a lot of sense.
I look forward to finishing my edit so l can start fresh on my next book.

To the point and very helpful.

If you ever needed someone to just walk you quickly through the steps of editing your manuscript, this is the one. Ms. Aukes explaines each step simply, gives good examples and even details common pitfalls. I would recommend this to anyone who is writing a novel who is looking to self publishing or is even thinking of going with the big 5 TP.

Short but informative.

I was wonder how helpful such a short book on editing would be, but let me assure you it was very helpful. Is it all encompassing? No, but it does lay a very detailed ground work. More than enough to begin editing your own manuscript while to continue to learn more.

I'm sure I will reference this short book multiple times as I polish my novel.

This is a great quick reference guideline for the rules of editing. I also enjoyed the style sheet, noting important rules in an easy to read format.
