Filled with quizzes, stats and little known facts, plus illustrated and told with all the fun of a Tom Gates novel, the Soccer Superstars series is perfect for young readers five and up. Is Kylian Mbappé your ultimate soccer hero? His quick feet and shooting skills have made him one of the world's top forwards and the youngest ever player to score 16 goals in the Champions League. Mbappé started playing at the age of six and his first coach was his dad. Find out how he went from playing on the pitch he created in his living room to becoming the second teenager in history to score in a World Cup final. Soccer Superstars is a series aimed at building a love of reading from a young age, with fun cartoons, inspirational stories, a simple narrative style and a cast of characters chipping in with quotes, jokes and comments.

This series (Football Superstars) is a big hit with my students. They love to borrow books about their favourite players, learning about where they started and comparing statistics against the greats. The illustrated format is attractive to reluctant readers and allows them to read something at their level, without being looked at as babyish.

Mbappe Rules gives us a short background of where he started, and how he became the globally respected player he is today. Personally, I would have liked more insight into him personally, with some quotes/interviews with Mbappe himself. This is very much a stats-based book, with occasioal quotes from other players and coaches who knew Mbappe. Sometimes, comments are made without context. e.g. 'MCN (the trio of Paris St Germain stars) were back!' on page 89, but there had been no previous reference to them suffering a setback or not playing well together. Or the reasoning seems a little off/needs further detail/explanation, e.g. The reason given for Mbappe choosing Monaco over Chelsea for his first club was "Kylian did not want to live too far from his family". London is actually closer to Paris than Monaco. By plane it is 15 minutes closer and by train the trip would be 5 hours quicker!

Overall, this book is like a more exciting and well-presented Wikipedia entry, just covering the highlights and main points of his career. This was published in 2020 and is probably due for an update around now, in order to remain relevant.

Simon Mugford’s Football Superstars: Mbappe Rules is an exciting and fast-paced read that perfectly captures the journey and charisma of Kylian Mbappé. It’s inspiring for young fans and a fun, easy read for anyone who loves football. While diving into Mbappé’s story, I found myself wanting to keep up with real-time matches—and that’s where Sofascorebet laliga livescore came in. It’s become my go-to site for live scores, stats, and match analysis. If you're into football books like this one, you'll love tracking real games with sofascorebet too.
