Lucy O'Malley wants to find a man—someone who will cool the fire that crackles in her blood. That doesn't seem too much for a gal to ask. Then Matt Diamond, the man of her heated dreams, strolls through the door of the café where she is employed. Bulging muscles, worn jeans, and bedroom eyes wrapped up in one big package of pure male testosterone are enough to make Lucy slide right off a stool. Matt is blindsided by the redheaded woman prone to fumbling her way throughout her days. All he meant to do was duck into a restaurant for a quick burger. What he got was a red-hot tamale lying on the floor at his feet. Setting out for only a one-night stand, Matt is surprised at the depth of emotion that comes over him the first time he holds Lucy in his arms. Enter Jake, Matt's twin brother and mirror image. Never in his wildest dreams did he think his brother's new love would steal his heart instantly. Lucy's going to have to figure out how to deal with the double love of her double Diamonds—because both brothers set her body on fire, and both of them have captured her heart.
Picture Ruby with her hair on fire! Yup, that's her every morning when she bounds out of bed and heads for her home office. Ruby thanks her lucky stars that she's a full-time writer and a part-time matchstick. Although, there is a hint of a bulldog somewhere in there, too. Once she sticks her teeth into something, there's no turning back until it works. Her husband says she reminds him of that little mouse who stares up into the sky at a swooping eagle (this would be the mouse with his middle finger up) daring that darn bird, and just about anyone else, to screw up her day when she's got writing on the brain.
Ruby loves to write, plain and simple. So much so that she took a leap of faith in herself and quit her 'professional' job, stuck her butt in front of a computer, and finally discovered what brings her true happiness in the wilds of Minnesota.
Some might think that the life of a writer is glamorous and enviable. This is what Ruby has to say about that: "Glamorous? Think of me in sweats and an old t-shirt just beneath that flaming head of mine, typing with one hand and beating out the fire with the other. Envious? Most times my 'new' job consists of long hours of dedication and damn hard work, cramping leg muscles from sitting too long, and a backside that for some reason is widening by the week. But I wouldn't change my life for the world."
Most people who fantasize about strange people and occurrences are sitting on the sixth floor of some psychiatric hospital. Not Ruby—she gets paid for it!
More like 3.5 stars for the great sex. "Lucy's Double Diamonds" by Ruby Storm is about what happens when a woman falls in love with two men, unknowingly. Lucy thought her world was complete when she fell in love with Matt and he loved her back. But when Matt is called away on a very important night for her, he talks his twin Jake into stepping in for him. It doesn't take long for Jake to fall in love with Lucy too. But what will happen when Lucy finds out about their deception?
This was a quick read, perfect for a little mindless escapism. I received this book with a bunch of others in an order from E-Bay. The book description on the back sounded promising and I dove in with gusto. I was sadly disappointed, however, in the story. I had trouble liking our protagonist--she seemed overly sexed and naïve. The little switcheroo seemed somewhat forced and the brother and protagonist fell for each other ridiculously fast, although in her defense she thought it was her boyfriend. The book failed to pull me into the story and I found myself checking time and time again how close to finished I was. I only finished it through sheer determination to check it off my list and because I have trouble not-finishing any story. I am not eager to read anything more by this author.
Lucy O'Malley wants to find a man. Into her life appears Matt Diamond, muscled, worn jeans and a sexy smile. Lucy is thrilled when she and Matt begin a relationship. Matt is happier with Lucy than he's been in ages.
Enter Jake, Matt's twin brother. Never in a million years would he think his twin's new love would steal his heart.
No spoiler, so that's it. When one of the twins tries to pull a switcheroo on her, Lucy gets her revenge!
This was actually a silly, but fun book. It was totally over the top, and the heroine was ridiculous, but I can't lie, I still enjoyed the heck out of it. Massive suspension of disbelief required to read this by the way, but if you start off with low expectations, you might find that you secretly end up enjoying it. Being on medication probably helps too.
