It was part of my professional reading list and I am grateful to learn how we started as a business and what keeps our people motivated through the years. On the other hand values, not just corporate meanings, but the real touching words that drives people to be part of the big yellow machine are my most valuable lesson from the book. Humility is the New normal and style of leadership and for DHL it was set up from the very beginning.

“Designed to Win” is an opportunity for Mr. Po Chung to share his ideas, concepts, and methods that are proven business practices to help businesses go Global. Mr. Chung’s ideas, concepts and methods are not just from any company. They are from his time as the co-founder of DHL International. He was there from its inception in 1972. He led DHL as it was built into a worldwide network that grew to operate in more than 220 countries and territories. This book doesn’t speak to the run of the mill ideas, concepts, and methods. The founders of DHL were not traditional businessmen and they didn’t build the traditional business. I was pleasantly surprised at the methods and concepts they developed to lead DHL. I don’t want to give the contents of the book away, but it speaks to topics such as leadership instead of management, people-centric instead of process-centric, and service instead of manufacturing. I think the book is for innovators. The stories that Mr. Chung uses shows how the methods are applied. They also help to explain why they work. I didn’t use the methods in the book while I was still working because I didn’t know about them. If I were still working, I would certainly implement the methods. I really liked the book and think it provides a great deal of information and ideas to anyone reading it. I would give it six stars if I could. It is that good. This book should be on the reading list of all leaders who truly want to make a difference in their business and the people who work for them.
