Aroostine Higgins #6

Clingmans Dome

Rate this book
Tracker Aroostine Higgins and Special Agent Patton Banks, a criminal investigator with the National Park Services Investigative Services Branch, have a strained relationship.

He doesn’t trust her, and she doesn’t agree with his by-the-book approach.

They’re far from an investigative dream team. But when Aroostine picks up the trail of a fugitive during a visit to Clingmans Dome, the pair is thrown into an investigation together.

Alan Steven Reynolds is a notorious jewel thief. He and four accomplices pulled off the largest single heist in history. Three of the men went to prison, Reynolds went on the run, and the fifth finagled a non-guilty verdict.

Now, Roo and Patton must comb the dense forests of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in search of the jewel thief—and the jewels. Reynolds isn’t only running from the law, though. As the investigators track the wanted man, their every move is also being tracked by someone with the resources and the resolve to exact the ultimate revenge.

Aroostine and Patton need to bring Reynolds in before his old partner brings him down, along with anyone else he finds in the woods.

Clingmans Dome is the sixth book in USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller’s smart, fast-paced Aroostine Higgins series.

A "banging" good book. Love the direction Ms. Miller is taking Aroostine. The book was fast paced, engrossing and entertaining as always. The Smokey Mountains setting was great. Nice to "travel" a bit when it isn't a real option at this time. :-) As always, there is mystery and intrigue. I find the art of Aroostine's tracking amazing. This book is my favorite in the series thus far. Can't wait for the next one!

One never sees anything until they look
Reviewed in Canada on June 22, 2020

This story really drew me in from the beginning. This book links up with Crossfire Creek in a very fitting way. The adoption of the young teen ,Joy-Lynn,that had gone missing and was found by Aroostine is being celebrated. Aroostine has been invited by the adoptive father. Aroostine finds herself back in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park where Luke Painter, the adoptive father works for the National Park Service as a ranger. Special agent Pat Banks has also been invited and he knows Aroostine from the case at Crossfire Creek. Pat gets the idea of having Aroostine teach a tracking course to the rangers while she is visiting in the area. Superintendent Jenson of the park finally agrees if it is at no cost and will help find lost visitors to the park. Aroostine agrees to Pat’s plan and the class is started. Another storyline from the past comes to light. There has been a fugitive, Alan Steven Reynolds, hiding in the park for the last 11 years and he has never been caught. The tracking class takes on the search after Aroostine sees a depression in the grass from up high on the tower of Clingman’s dome. She believes the depression was made by someone watching the trail up to the tower. I was really intrigued by the tracking skills Aroostine used and taught to others. The story moves along quite quickly with some additional interesting characters interacting with Aroostine. The dialogue is very natural and suitable for the events depicted.
Pat discovers he is attracted to Aroostine but he also wants her to join his staff at the IBS while Aroostine finds her feelings about Pat complicated. The two end up partners in a search for a bomber when Pat’s vehicle is a victim of a pipe bomb. This is a story that is hard to put down once started since one really wants to discover what will happen next. I encourage you to read this book and others if you have not read books by Melissa Miller.

CLINGMANS. DOME..Melissa Miller
Alan wanted it known what the banks were doing about foreclosing
When he see’s Nora Ryan, a top reporter, he was pumped, meaning it was getting top news coverage. Something was wrong, he heard some of her words, South Atlantic Home Bank was closed on Saturday, volunteers and many dead now. He was a fugitive , a mass murdered and a wanted man.
Agent Bank comes with an offer for, Superintendent Kurt a special class to inform the search and rescue team and rangers of tracking the day hikers better when they get lost. Arootstine Higgins is the expert.to teach
Aroostine and Pat go for a hike up to Clingmans Dome, the spectacular view, looking over the edge something captured her attention.
Could it be the fugitive after 11 years. Would be a good lesson for some rangers on tracking him, Agent Pat Banks agrees, and with her leading it.
Good flowing plot, giving us more about Aroostine, the tools of observing, and tracking was interesting, the suspense, intriguing story, a hint of romance, and a good series.

Aroostine Higgins returns, this time in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The . Also back is Patton Banks, Special Agent with the Park Services’s Investigative Service Branch who previously appeared in Crossfire Creek.
Aroostine is at the park to lead a masterclass in tracking for a group of National Park Rangers.
During a walk she notices signs indicating someone sitting for long periods. As the Park is suspected as being the long time hiding place for a bomber who took 200 lives during a building bombing. Aroostine decides to make a search for the bomber a class exercise. From there the book takes off. And a trip it is.
Enjoy the book. It stands up positively to the author’s other works.

Not being from America, I really didn't know anything about the Great Smoky Mountains, or Clingmans Dome, so I learned some new things whilst reading this one!

Aroostine teaches a class for park rangers on tracking, then puts her skills to use tracking a notorious fugitive - a man in hiding for many years, after blowing up a building that killed a large number of people. Unfortunately for Roo (& Pat), someone else is also looking for this man, and messes with their investigation.

I find all the books in this series really interesting, covering subjects and places that I know little about, so I always feel like I'm learning as I read, which I enjoy. This was another great addition to the series, and I look forward to seeing where the next one will take Roo.

I like all of Miller's books, without exception. I think she's such a talented writer and the characters she creates are engaging, smart, and entertaining. Aroostine's story, though, I think is my very favourite--and that's a hard choice. I love the way she interacts with her surroundings and the aspect to her character that her grandfather's teachings and her native heritage bring to her, and because of this, this is my favourite book so far. My only regret is that now I have to wait for the next book to be written.

Aroostine Higgins agrees to give a tracking class to the park rangers at Clingmans Dome at the urging of her friend Special Agent Patton River Banks. What started as a short stay turns into a longer and more dangerous one as a long lost fugitive from a terrorist bombing suddenly turns up after Aroostine spots a suspicious area near one of the trails to observation platform and again sees it from the top of the platform itself. Tracking the fugitive and being hampered by a head ranger who has plans to improve the budget for the under funded park. A good read by one of my favorite authors.

WOW

I don’t think I’ve ever given a Melissa Miller book less than a 5 but this one might deserve an extra star, if possible. The story line in this book is fascinating and the way the mystery is solved is interesting. A mystery in which the reader knows who-done-it but the characters trying to solve it don’t is a novel concept for a mystery. There’s enough personal information about the book’s characters so that it’s not pedantic, and a little romance, too, that make it a well-rounded book for all.

About Time!!!

Are you kidding me, Melissa F.Miller?? That ending had me crying like a baby for Roo!! Fabulous story, once again. Now it leaves me wanting for the next installment already. Melissa’s characters feel like family. I frequently find myself experiencing their emotions while reading. It’s good to see that Mrs. Higgins has something to look forward to because that means we do too.

Another great book

I thought this was a great book with great descriptions of the Smoky Mountain Park with Aroostine and her tracking abilities. I really liked that she's also beginning to find herself attracted to Patton River Banks, a Special Agent who finds himself attracted to her, too. They're working to stop another bombing by the fugitive suspected of hiding in the Park. I'm looking forward to the next book since the stories just keep getting better.

Guess I have to wait now

Well, had to pre-order this book and wait a whopping 2 days for it to arrive [:)]. Guess now I will have to really wait for the next in any of the series. Love Sasha, Bohdi & Aroostine. Still wondering about a Dahlia branch of her own. As well as more Sasha, Bodhi and Roo.

An enjoyable series. I believe Aroostine Higgins is my favorite Miller character yet. I love Sasha and Leo but Aroostine is just so warm. I've read all the books in the series and anxiously await new adventures for Aroostine. I pray her story line is not complete yet.

I highly recommend the entire series. I haven't read a Melissa F. Miller book yet, that I didn't enjoy.

An amazing story. Higgins and Banks aren’t necessarily an ideal team, but they do work well together. Enough suspense to keep you reading.

Once again, Melissa F. Miller does not disappoint. I always learn something new when I read one of her books, this time it was about the Great Smoky Mountains. Miller continues to develop her characters, and I like the direction Aroostine Higgins is going in. There's underlying tension between her and Agent Patton Banks, but it's not of the silly romance novel variety. The relationships play well with the plot, which moves along at a nice clip. I'm looking forward to the next installment!
