Cassie Nyre is looking forward to a quiet and lonely Christmas--until she finds an injured animal on the way home. Her big heart has her bring the hurt otter into her home and into her bathtub, to rest until Christmas Day when she can deliver it to Animal Control. But the next morning she finds a semi-naked man in her bathroom--and it's not Santa Claus!
This was a fun story, perfect for when you’re in between books. The otter part was better than I expected. I guess I’m just more into the ‘morally grey’ MMC’s in books instead of Cinnamon Rolls, but that’s just preference 😊.
If you love otters, sweet MMCs and a short, cozy story then this is the book for you!
I have liked, if not loved every story I’ve read by Sheryl Nantus. Shifting Seasons was no different. This was my first time reading an otter shifter story and I had no idea what to expect. I honestly didn’t even know otter shifters existed.
Shifting Seasons starts on Christmas Eve. For Cassie Nyre, this time of the year isn’t the best. A year ago, both her parents passed away. Being in Pennsylvania while her only living relative is in Arizona just highlights the fact that she’s alone. While walking home from the bar she co-owns, Cassie comes across an injured otter. Picking it up, she takes it to her home, with the intention of getting it to someone who can properly take care of it the next day. Cassie patches up the otter as best as she can and puts it in her bathtub, with a little water to make it more comfortable. She never imagined that she would wake up the next day and find a naked man in her bathtub.
Alec Riverstorm is grateful that he was rescued. While he could have healed in his otter form, healing in his human form is faster. He never intended to have his shifting abilities discovered, but he can’t deny that he’s happy Cassie is the one who found him.
I loved the characters of Cassie and Alec. I loved reading about how their relationship blossomed and grew. I loved the little surprise Sheryl added to the story. I will never look at otters the same again.
As with all the other books I’ve read by Sheryl, my only complaint is that I wish there was more. I had a permanent smile on my face the whole time I was reading and I didn’t want the story to end.

3.5* Cassie recently lost both parents and is alone on Christmas Eve. Walking home from work she comes across and injured otter. Not wanting to leave it to the elements, she takes it home and puts it in her bathtub. On Christmas Day, surprise! She finds a man in her bathtub. This was nicely placed and I liked the idea of having a pelt to assist with changing. There were a few surprises in this as well. Would have liked to read about meeting Alec's family.
Shifting Seasons by Sheryl Nantus is a charming shifter story set in the small town along the Monongahela River in Pennsylvania.
Cassie Nyre is part owner of Nyre’s Bar, her legacy from her father, who was killed in an accident a couple years ago. When she comes across a wounded river otter on her walk home after closing one night, her soft heart leads her to bring the injured animal home and place it in her bathtub so she could assess its injuries and provide it basic care and food.
Alec Riverstorm is a surprise, in more than one sense. Cassie and Alec fall more deeply for each other and struggle to figure out how to navigate their differences.
Sheryl Nantus’s story is an entertaining, unique holiday read!
Cassie and Alec are a very cute couple. I felt the chemistry from the beginning. I would love to know what Alec's adventure was like. He obviously had to go through a lot to
What an adorable new take on shifters. This is the first book I’ve read by the author and I loved it. I enjoyed the new type of shifter, I don’t think I’ve read about an otter before, and I really liked how she incorporated part of the selkie legend into the story. The book is a true love story that is going to steal your heart. I will be on the lookout for future stories from the author.
I listened to this audiobook because it was short and available and I wanted something seasonally acclimated to read.
The writing was fine, I’m kind of offended by the FMC accepting subpar treatment by the MMC. Like… he left for over a year???? He didn’t ONCE try to contact you, just got so wrapped up in what he was doing and what he wanted for you that time slipped by! It would almost be sweet that he went through so much for her, but they didn’t exactly talk about it before hand?? He just made a decision on her behalf, and yeah she was able to choose to accept the pelt or not once he had it, but that would’ve been a nice conversation ahead of time?

This was cute! It had otter shifters. I don't really like shifters that are smaller species like otters, squirrels, etc. But this was cute and the narrator are good.
