This is a great book that talks about the ins and outs of what intercultural relationships look like. Lots of differing views of how other people view you and you feel like you can only relate to couples that can only understand the different cultures that’s clashing. Since most people have only lived with a certain mono culture their whole life people often see the world with that lense with that certain set of Moral, cultures, traditions, therefore it’s easy for others to judge and side with whoever aligns more with that particular culture.

I like that aspect of showing how that’s normal. She talks about how weddings go, marriages, and transition, kids etc. so many expectations need to be verbally said. Since it’s so easy to expect something that the other doesn’t understand.

What I don’t like about this book as a Christian is that she frames mixed religious marriages as ok. If you’re already in a mixed culture/race/region relationship. Having a partner that also doesn’t view the world in terms of a moral and values perspective is dangerous. Especially if both couples chose to stay in their perspective religions. Will be a crazy upbringing for the kids. Speaking from personal experience know many people in Indonesia that tried this and end up in divorce.

Take the good in this book and leave the bad. Overall beneficial for a mixed relationship couple. I’d like to see a Christian version of this though.

I've been looking for a good book on this topic for a long time! I love how practical and down-to-earth it is. My boyfriend (Tanzanian) and I (Romanian) are going to read it and discuss it together. This is such a great resource!
