About the author

John Connell is a geographer. He holds a PhD from University College London. Since the 1970s, he has taught at the University of Sydney. He was elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences of Australia in 2000 and in 2007 won the NSW Geographical Society’s McDonald Holmes Medal.
