This is a very timely book on the rise of China and its various geopolitical impacts on the world and India. It mostly focuses on the regime of Xi Jinping and his ambitions for the New China which takes back the coveted position it held before the Opium Wars as Middle Kingdom. It traces various moves President Xi has taken like BRI, various global institutions (like SCO, AIIB, NDB) in order to promote "socialism with Chinese characteristics".
Though the book is good in tracing history and actions already taken, it lacks in providing future insight and actionable inputs for policymakers and even casual readers.
An intriguing read about how China is shifting the Power balance from western political order to asia based order led by China itself. Author smclearly explains present stand and implications of China's emergence as a global leader and how India challenges and struggles for its place in the global leadership. India is the only country with largest democracy, challenging Its neighbor having a totally opposite state craft and ideology, in the struggle at many fronts, but its still a long way to go...!!!
Events in 2020 have proved the conclusions of this book, published in 2019, to be spot on. The only grouse is with the overall quantity of material. One can be sure many reams of paper and analysis can be filled out. Perhaps the writers will bring out another book for that!
