A charming and fantastical tale set in ancient Ireland, about a young woman who was born to be the steward of sacred land. I loved the way the relationship between Gwenevieve and unconventional warrior, Maedus, developed. The great ending of this book left me with a happy sigh.

I had the pleasure of reading the “first” two books in Juli D. Revezzo’s Celtic Stewards Chronicles series, and was eager to read this one as well. This series, as befits the imaginative mind of its creator, and much like some of the Celtic stories upon which it’s based, moves backward rather than forward in time. This lends a unique perspective. Readers have the opportunity to see what leads up to the tales they’ve already read. As a fan of the unusual, I enjoyed this.

Moving backward through time requires the author to supply a world and details of increasing antiquity, and I thought Juli D. Revezzo did a wonderful job with that. We enter a world we can’t hope to see in our lifetimes, and get a chance to experience it for a while. We see the roundhouses in which the ancient Irish lived, and learn about the minutiae of their lives—how grain was ground, and what weapons a warrior carried with him. Both the hero and heroine of this story were unique, and the development of their relationship believable. At many moments while reading, I felt as if the old legends came to life on the page. The twist at the end—which I refuse to reveal—will delight.

If you’re a fan of Celtic lore, you’re bound to enjoy this story and the rest of the series.
