Né le 6 août 1868 à Villeneuve-sur-Fère (Aisne), Paul Claudel publie en 1889 son premier drame Tête d'Or. Diplomate, il sera nommé aux quatre coins du monde, jusqu'à sa retraite en 1935. Il est élu en 1946 à l'Académie française et meurt à Paris le 23 février 1955.
