Youngsters will enjoy the puzzle presented here as they follow various clues in the text and visual hints in the illustrations to find the missing penguin. What makes this book particularly unique is the die-cuts that show various pieces of felt in different colors. Lifting the felt flaps enables readers to check to see if their guesses about the penguin are correct. Could he be hiding behind one of those colorful pieces of felt? Youngsters will be eager to find out. Not only does this book give them practice in making predictions and honing their visual acuity skills, but it also appeals to those who are developing tactile skills or just need to touch that felt. There's a peekaboo aspect to the book that makes the guessing game just as fun as it is informative. Caregivers will want to add this title to their collection, but they need to be ready to read it several times due to the demand of the listener(s).
A board book with die-cut holes and felt flaps. It asks a question (Penguins have short tails. Is it hiding behind the rock?) to encourage the toddler-reader to investigate. Cute and enjoyable for the target reader.
Felt flaps are my daughter's new favourite thing, so any board book with felt flaps gets high ratings from us because she finds them so exciting and joyful. It's a novelty that this one has a lovely story to go along with it, rather than overly repetitive pages - will definitely be looking for more Little Tiger board book releases in the future.
