This book was recommended to me. It certainly is a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of jumping into ministry. The story was enjoyable and the book is short so it doesn't require a big commitment. The characters are quite simple though and not very "real". It could be that I've been reading longer book series that give more time to character development so shouldn't compare the two. I enjoyed it but don't feel compelled to read book two.
If you are looking for a mystery series dealing with an Episcopal priest then this is it. I found this series after finishing Jan Karon's Mitford series, and I've not been disappointed. Maynard portrays the congregation as we know them to be. Some good, some not so good.
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I did Jan Karon's books. The characters are well developed, but I found a few inconsistencies with the story line. Definitely more sizzle than Jan Karon's plots, but not as endearing.
My Episcopal friends will be able to relate to this book a lot! It hit the nail on "traditional Episcopalians" and showed how open, loving, and wonderful the denomination truly is.
