Cathy Studer's book BROKEN TO BEAUTIFULLY WHOLE is an excellent book that does exactly what the subtitle promises: it is a compelling crusade to break the silence, move through trauma, and heal pain. Cathy very carefully lets her reader know that she isn't telling us ONE way or the ONLY way to heal, but she is suggesting ideas and sharing her own personal story to encourage those who read her story to take the journey through the pain to find healing. She very specifically focuses on the trauma that comes as a result of child abuse, but her thoughts and suggestions can be used for most, if not all, traumas.
In her chapter on "Perspective," Cathy says that she is not "'Pollyannaish,' trying to put a positive spin on everything, possibly taking it too far. Having a positive perspective doesn't mean I think everything in life is unicorns, sunshine, and rainbows" (74). Cathy, if you read your reviews, will you pretty please contact me? I would love to have a conversation about Pollyanna--as a true Polly Anna myself, I have some thoughts I need to share with you.

Inspirational and Courageous
I am in awe of Cathy’s ability to impart hope of healing to other survivors. I cried for her as a young child experiencing the horrific pain and shame of childhood sexual abuse. I was then amazed at how she was able to keep her perspective and resilience to become the amazing woman and advocate she is today. Thank you for sharing your heart and soul in this book and for keeping the difficult but necessary conversations going. You are definitely an angel.

I felt the pain as I read this heartbreaking real-life story that Cathy had gone through. Even if you weren't personally abused, you could help someone who has been. Worth the read!

Can't really say I "enjoyed" the book because the initial topic is so dark; however, I did find this book uplifting and hopeful. My journey began 3o years ago to try to cope with multiple issues from my childhood. After reading this book, I was so happy to be able to gauge where I was 30 years ago to how far I have come today. What enlightenment! Cathy's right, once you develop what I call "An Attitude of Gratitude" the healing begins because you are able to separate the past from the present. Cathy is able to point out coping skills that can help with anyone's journey. Faith, Forgiveness, Self-Compassion, Kindness are all things that can help with this journey. Healing is NOT something you graduate from but, it is something that you can build on and be able to live your best life, as long as you practice tools for coping. Thank you Cathy for sharing your journey and what you hope will encourage others to do in an effort to prevent future victimization.

This is a book of hope. I have been one who has struggled with self doubt and low self esteem. This book gives you clear tools to lead you towards healing, how to stand strong through the pain, and to look back to celebrate your growth and victory. Great read!
