Poth's work and research are extensive in Chart A New Course. I found myself rereading, quite often, to digest the copious information more thoroughly. One of the benefits of reading Poth's works is that she is a teacher. Her knowledge and expertise come from the first-hand experience in teaching and implementing these future-ready skills which she is advocating for education. Throughout Chart a New Course, Poth repeatedly demonstrates how the essential skills and emerging learning technologies presented empowers both the teacher and the learner.
A teacher's investment in implementing these digital technologies and developing these competencies provide a nexus for students in whatever they may endeavor to do in the future. Each chapter of the book also contains sidebars of other educators' stories, students' stories, and lessons learned along the way. These sidebars offer real-life accounts of using the skills and proficiencies that Poth describes. Finally, I appreciated a section titled "5 to Try" in each chapter. These sections offer a detailed description of five digital tools and resources that provided useful and innovative ways to implement the chapter's central theme or idea.

One of the best books I read I had the pleasure of hearing Rachelle speak at the ISTE SLA in 2020. The book really captures the integration of things like students voice & empowerment, PBL, & the connections to what we are all ready doing and want to enhance. Anyone who is curious about authentic learning should look into this book!
