A surprisingly balanced book that captures more of the background of many of the characters involved in the affair. The author takes a position that sides more with Galileo than, for example, Finocchiaro, but he makes the case for a prideful Galileo who easily makes enemies. He also partially attributes the change of heart of Urban VIII to an unfortunate turn of events when Galileo's de facto papal ambassador Ciampoli betrayed the Pope on the political arena, favouring Spain. The entire truth may never be fully known as to what exactly happened, but this author feels that it is good to keep this case open as a way to teach the Church humility in all actions going forwards.

Well worth a read.
