Elector Max III. Joseph of Bavaria (1727-1777) was the son of the Emperor Charles VII and Empress Amalia. He was nicknamed "the Good" after he finished nearly 18 year-old ruler of the Austrian Succession war and knew that his country over three decades to stay out of military entanglements. He founded the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, and put through reforms in the church, school and agricultural sector, the foundations for a modern Bavaria. During his reign (1745-1777) became the last witch burned in Bavaria, built the church and the meadow Cuvilliestheater, with the introduction of compulsory education. With Max III. Joseph died in the line of the old Bavarian Wittelsbach. His reign has marked the Bavarian development in a particular way, the person of the elector on the other hand, however, moved more into the background of the visual field.
