Solar Cells and Optics for Photovoltaic Concentration is a comprehensive text, covering the whole of this field. It embraces both optical and device aspects of photovoltaic concentration, giving an in-depth coverage of the subject not to be found in other books. The authors discuss the theory of solar cells, dealing in detail with concentrating cells, and there is a strong slant towards practical applications. A number of topics, such as high injection and point contact cells, are presented for the first time in this book. An extensive treatment of non-ionising optics provides a background not frequently found among photovoltaic specialists, which may lead to crucial advances in concentrating photovoltaics. Professor Luque, who has recently been awarded the Torres Queuedo Prize (the most important in Spain for technological research) and his colleagues at the Instituto de Energia Solar in Madrid have been at the forefront of solar cell research for many years. Among other achievements they have developed the bifacial cells, a key for static concentration, now currently manufactured by a company created for the purpose. Their achievements in high-efficiency cells and in concentrators of novel structure are also worthy of notice.
