Laura💃💋 is a journalistic reporter in Detroit. She is hot on the trail of an elusive, almost legendary drug lord, Guillermo La Fierno👹🔫🔪. She is so determined to find and track him, she is living in her car on a nearly permanent stakeout!!
When Laura's perseverance and camera shots help the police capture Guillermo👹, she is sent on an assignment to Columbia🌴🌺 to follow up on the pictures she also got of a representative of the Guerilla Liberation Front.
The GLF wants the world to know their true story. They aren't just the suppliers of drugs to Guillermo, they use the money to fight the corrupt Columbian government.
If course, once Laura gets to Columbia🌴🌺 she gets herself into trouble and kidnapped by the GLF. What she doesn't expect is how hot Matias🐺, the leader is, and how much they are drawn to each other!
ARC Received from Booksprout 🌱 I also got this book with KU.
The book is interesting but slow going until over halfway through. It may not hold some romance readers interest long enough to get to the actual romance!. I admit I did skip a lot of dialogue here and there. The book is written from dual points of view.
The title was seriously misleading as there was no "kidnapping." The overall story had potential. An honest reporter gets embedded in a rebellion in a foreign country in order to get the real story, rather than just the government's version. That part of the story really wasn't bad, especially as it was dealing with Columbia, which has an ongoing rebellion, so it had that going for it. Not sure why the author decided to throw on an ending that tried to turn the book into a romance when that really wasn't what the story was about.
It was suggested to me by Amazon based on authors I have read/liked. I had never heard of Myra Brightholme so I decided to give this one a read.....and I'm glad I did.
The pacing was good. It flowed perfectly with little to no grammatical errors. I could picture the story in my head perfectly as I was reading. I could feel the sway of Mat's green eyes, the humidity of the Colombian rainforest, and the fear and strength in the villagers.
This story reads much like a Pablo Escobar fairytale. Laura is a reporter trying to expose large drug dealers in Detroit, but she hungers for more. That next big story that is going to make her career. She is given an assignment in the jungles of Colombia to write an honest article about the GLF, the Guerilla Liberation Front, a group of drug manufacturers and illegal arms dealers that is trying to expose the corruption in the President and government of Colombia. Here she meets Matias, the face of the GLF, and the Pablo Escobar of the story. Mat sells heroin, cocaine and illegal guns all over the world and uses the money to fund schools, housing and various jobs for the people in the small villages not protected by the corrupt President. Laura's job is to expose the president and save Colombia.....and of course fall in love with Mat.
I wasn't expecting the twist in the book towards the end and I liked that. This story could have been alot longer than its 186 pages but I never felt like anything was left out or skipped over. Things progressed quickly but never felt rushed. There are a few "holes" I wished were filled in more....like how they made it back to the States. How the plan worked out when they got back. What happened to Laura's boss once everything was exposed? The story doesn't lack without these details, I just believe they could have added alot more substance to the story.
I like Laura. She isn't afraid or whiny. She's in the middle of the Colombian jungle alone and she's fighting off a jaguar with pepper spray. The girl's got balls.....and it shows through the whole story. She's just what Mat needs, he's been so busy taking care of everyone else he needs someone to take care of him.
Thank you for a fantastic read, Myra Brightholme. I will be picking up your other books!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. First off the block I have to say Myra has never disappointed me in her books or the story line. You have the brothers Mat and Carlos fighting for their cause. They remind me of Robin Hood and his band of thieves. Staying in the shadows being as if they are ghosts. Try to assassinate the president that has quite a few body doubles. Laura trying to make a name for herself being a journalist with that one big story. Who are supplying the drugs? Laura being where she had no business being is why she got into the trouble she was in. This story has laughter, drama and twists that you don't see coming. I enjoyed reading this book.

Ms. Brightholme has written another amazing story. She caught my interest from chapter one. There was nothing "slow moving" about this book. Laura's a report, trying to reduce drug trafficking in Detroit. She captures on film both the dealer and the supplier. Someone's impressed, and she gets the story opportunity of a lifetime. On this assignment, she meets Matias. I don't want to give anything away, but this story had me reading as fast as I could to find out each and every detail of Laura and Matias' lives. And, Ms. B. puts several twists to keep everything more interesting. Wonderful, wonderful writing!
Kidnapped by the Colombian Mafia. The story starts off a little confusing. I had trouble understanding who was on what side. Laura goes after her greatest story to show the men at her paper how much better she was to them at getting a story. She stopped at nothing to find out who was supplying drugs to Detroit. The story takes on various thrills for Laura that she can't help getting into. This is a good read! Laura is sent to get a story of Columbian crime boss Matias and his gang. She is kidnapped by him, so she can get the true story. Laura is a good investigative reporter. I like how she goes to great lengths to discover the truth. Matias wants her to help him bring down a corrupt government. They become attracted to each other. Matias wants to free his country of a dictator and help the people. They encounter danger from the enemy. There are surprises. The biggest surprise did not surprise me, but it was still a good twist to the plot.
Laura is a tough reporter following a drug trafficking story. She gets a chance of a lifetime to follow a possible lead in Colombia. She gets kidnapped by the famous GLF group. The leader is Matias and he is determine to have her see how the drugs and guns operation work.
Myra Brightholme gives us a different view of the drug world. Story is filled with suspense and twist.

Myra Brightholme has written another action packed romance. In this book -Laura is an investigative reporter but she is kidnapped after being sent to get a story of Colombian crime boss Matias and his gang. Matias is much more than a crime boss he wants to free his country of a dictator and have her to help him bring down the corrupt government. A hot steamy romance that has it all with lots of action and a good twist in the story.
This is the story of Matias and Laura. Interesting plot. It kept my attention from the start. Filled with drama and laughter, it keeps the pages turning. Lots of interesting twists and turns. This book is part of a series but can be read alone. The romance starts later in the story. Entertaining.

I loved the action, suspense and betrayal of this book. The action starts right away and continues throughout. Kept my interest til the end. Romance does come into play but much later in the book. Great read!!

When it takes over 8 chapters to start the reality of the story, it's not for me. It did not hold my interest even when the story should have started climaxing, it did not hold my interest. It took me 3 tries to continue reading the book.
The story started out slow and it's not my normal cup of tea. I kept pushing through it and the story started to pick up. Amazing characters, story of betrayal for not only one man but an entire community.
